I did 2 hours of research to find the answer to this bizarre question. If you look at it on the surface it seems obvious, get lucky to find 15 scrolls of upgrade, and apply it to a greataxe +3, to get a +18 which deals 23-153 damage. Spoiler alert this is not the greatest amount of damage possible, far from it.
If you don't care about EVERYTHING you need to deal the most damage, then just look at this amount possible 1112.9 damage!!!!!
First off you can get a +19 greataxe if you reforge them at the troll blacksmith. An axe that's at least +3 (upgraded from scrolls or planning to upgrade axe) and a an axe that is any tier (not upgraded from scrolls). It will add a +1 to the greataxe, making the best upgraded one a +19. So 159 damage.
Whetstones can balance weapons and armor, so balance it for damage, you will deal 1.5x more damage. Now it's 238.5 damage.
Assassins can deal 1.6x more damage if they are invisible for long enough. Up the damage to 381.6 damage.
Here are some minor damage buffs, 20 strength when the greataxe has a weight of 15, sucker punch tier II is 2+ damage, ring of force +2 deals 3 extra damage, and ring of might +2 is 3 extra strength (so +3 damage). After all of that you can deal up to 400 damage.
Lastly debuffs, doomed makes enemies take double damage, and vulnerable makes enemies take 33% more damage. Making the highest possible damage 1070.4, or if you have 10 potions of Adrenaline Surge at the same time, then the final damage outputs maximum amount being that final number of 1112.9!
If you know anything else to increase damage, or something that is wrong in this forum post let me know.
Btw the most damage I ever did was 273 damage to an evil eye. (+10 greataxe, with assassin class)

Aight, so I realize huntress is extremely good late-game. But in early game (I mean floors 1-5), I keep dying, mostly (ahahaha, by mostly I mean always) because:
(Useful) seeds are always rare for me.
I usually get no armor. (Not even the ghost is helpful, yes I ask him for armor)
I'm always starving (I used to main Warrior, so it used to never be a problem, but now it is since I can't heal.)
Rings are also rare
Wands are more of... uncommon... for me. (both rings and wands are rarely useful, I got a ring of elements once, but it was cursed and -3, you can assume how useful it was...)
By the time a get to slime, I barely have anything, I mean, usually, I have an enchanted dagger but I'd be lucky to have a level 3 Boomerang.
Collapsed vaults (only flooded) do not exist for me, mwahaha, more potions for me
Here are the things that actually help:
For some reason, strength potions almost ALWAYS spawn on floor 1 and floor 3
Enchantment scrolls for some reason almost always spawn on floor 2
I usually get high tier weapons (but I can't use it, this game likes to give me false hope)
Here's what I usually do:
I have recently learned about 'trick shots.' Yes, I use it often.
All upgrade scrolls go to boomerang
I drink unknown potions over water and by doors.
I use scrolls immediately since they can't really do anything bad, I mean, blindness, sure, but challenging actually helps me.
I ALWAYS level up before going to the next floor. (example, if I'm on floor one, I LVL up to LVL 2, then move on, only exceptions are boss rooms, which I make up for on the next floor.)
I ALWAYS explore every room before moving on
I put on rings immediately to find out what it is, and if it's cursed, then guess I'll die.
I use the collapsed rooms, meaning I break my knees a lot.
I kill the fish in flooded vaults before going in, it gives me food
If I find a wipe-out scroll (I have only once ever died on the altar, and that was when I was trying to figure out what it was.) I usually save it for later use for when I ABSOLUTELY need to use it.
Again, seeds are rare, so I can't really save any for slime.
I only throw items into doors when it's flooded vaults.
I also actively verbally offend the crabs and make fun of their dum crab dance
And yes, I'm very aware someone already asked this question, but he asked for help on floors 6-10, not 1-5. Remember how I said I used to main Warrior, so how can I not even get past floors 1-5? Well, as much as you won't believe me, I've been trying to get a single ending fo 2 years (yes, this game has driven my sanity into the BLOODY CORE OF THE EARTH), my playstyle was self-taught, because no more than 3 months ago, I just realized this fandom existed. And I only got huntress 5 months ago, so Warrior is kiiiinda like another limb to me when it comes to this game. Any information will be super helpful and may God bless your very souls.
If you didn't know, any unidentified items that you haven't equipped can be thrown into the well of awareness. That item will now be identified.
Tested on original PD from google play
It's definitely a bug, but it delivers absolutely new game expirience.
Prerequisites: Find potion of flame or fire seed. Go to nearest chasm.
Conditions: You staying right near the chasm. You burning. You have 1-3 HP. So on next step you will definitely die from fire.
Action: JUMP TO CHASM RIGHT NOW!
Result: You become alive ghost with 0 HP. But! You can move, you have 1 step sight area (so blindy). You always invisible for enemies. You can attack them with 100% accuracy without getting revealed. Literally you do not exist for monsters, they moves constantly away from you. Items cannot be used from backpack (all buttons disabled), but some of them like scrolls and potions are available through quick-slot. Using heal potion or dew vial or stepping on dew will bring you back to life to a normal state hero.
I completed three dungeons and two bosses in ghost state, Goo was easy, Tengu - takes much time to kill, but DM-300 cannot be killed - he constantly moves on heal plates.
The dungeon lies in darkness. You have no healing potions, no armour, no dew drops, no scrolls. All you have is the slow regeration from food.
You might think that its impossible to survive without powerfull items from hero remains. Think again. All you need is the freerunner, and a bit of luck. The key to winning the game lies in exploiting fast weapons to get free hits.
The rythm of the Freerunner
Use the weightstone to modify a standard weapon for speed. Wait for the monster stands in front of you. Then step away one tile and let monster follow. Step away again and let the monster follow. Then you attack - the monster will not have time to strike back
Step away - step away - HIT
Sometimes the monster doesnt follow. Then you will have to wait a turn and repeat again. Or you can use the complete sequence:
Step - step - HIT- step - step - HIT - step - HIT
Simply repeat the sequence until the monster is dead.
A standard knucleduster (no speed-upgrade) is faster. So the rythm is slightly different:
Step - step - HIT - step - HIT - step - HIT
A standard mace is too slow for this tactic, but with a speed upgrade a mace is as fast as a knuckleduster.
Be carefull if you use ring of haste, wand of slow, chilling etc... as these effects change the rythm.
This way
Other tips:
Begin each level by exploring the hallways and clearing all traps. Search all standard tiles. Any trap might kill you - as a bonus you will discover most of the secret doors. Meeting a wandering monster will not wake up the sleeping monsters. Then you choose a room where you are not likely to get surrounded. Try to wake up single monsters with dart or wands - this way they will not alarm the rest of the monsters.
Allways run and fight the monsters one-by-one. When you get surrounded you will need: Lloyds beacon, wand of teleportation or wand of reach and invisibillity potions.
Kill all piranhas with wand of lightning, teleportation, amok or an upgraded wand of poison. Theyy are a valuable foodsupply and you save a portion of invisibility.
Goo can be killed with a knuckleduster, for the other bosses you will need darts, bombs, wands and honey bees.
Use the 4 Ankhs wisely to replenish live an remove hunger (remember to throw all equipment near the stairs)- especially before level 25
Following these guidelines you may stepdance all the way to the demon halls. However the slightest mistake will most likely result in a cruel and mercyless death. But hey, thats what PD is all about :D
There is a way to cheat the shop. Get a scroll of wipe out and use it in a shop. The shopkeeper dies and all the merch becomes free. Just remember that when you kill him, you are not selling anything until the next shop.
I don't know if someone mentioned it before but if you have dew vial that isnt full or is empty and you find a well of healing, you can throw the vial at the well and it fills it up! its very helpful
Say you're meandering around the sewers, and stumble across something amazing: A Warhammer! A Plate Armor! Something of that sort!
So, transferrable items like the shortsword aside, do you prefer to upgrade your current items, in hopes to live to use these items? Or set about upgrading them immediately, making them more potent in the long run and usable sooner?
I personally prefer upgrading later items immediately. How about you?
New player, deepest level is 6. Do you guys search, then move, then search then move? This seems like the only way to really avoid having walking into a trap? I have a feel for where I can find secret doors so don't feel like I need to search every single wall to find the secret doors.
If you want to not run into a trap on a hallway seems likle you have to serach, move, then search again. This seems like it would make you use up too much food.
What do you all do regarding this?
I use seeds often, but i want to hear everybody's ideas and how they use seeds to survive in the dark depths of pixel dungeon
I just got to depth 16 with the equipment in the picture and 2 levitation potions, 6 healing, 1 paralytic gas, 1 mind vision, 1 Slowness wand, 3 magic mapping scrolls, 1 teleportation, 2 upgrade, 3 remove curse, 1 identify and an unidentified scroll I think is terror.
I had 9 health potions when I beat the DM 300 but had to use THREE potions on ONE dwarf monk because he kept making me drop my weapon, so does anyone have any tips for surviving this stage?
I have a Longsword +6 and a Scale Armor +3so in case you were wondering i used a scroll of wipeout on the floor with a shop and it killed the shopkeep leaving all the items to be picked up for free!!!
Not sure if this works every time, but in all my runs so far where I've got to the Caves, the weapons/armor in the Troll Blacksmith's room are usually +0. If you still have enough upgrade scrolls to make it worth it and you still have bad armor you can use Plate Armor in the room, it won't be cursed
Hey there everyone, I've been lurking around the forums and the wiki for a little while now, and I'd consider myself fairly up-to-date with game knowledge, both from experience and reading all the material available here.
I have beaten the game (descended to d25 and grabbed the amulet, saying "I'm done") twice now, out of 252 runs on my current iOS app, along with a few hundred more from my first time downloading the app and casually playing it in class, and am looking for some more ways of enjoying the game in Vanilla. Some goals of mine include: all badges, runs with all classes/subclasses, and descend+ascend.
I've seen some strategies on using Hero's Remains to obtain certain badges, but am more curious as to how/if others have used it to build super fun/ridiculous runs, or if such a thing is even worth doing.
Greetings everyone, happy to finally actively join the community :)

This is, as the name implies, a warriors guide. It is mostly a boss guide, but features a bit of information on the stages to. This guide works for berserkers or gladiators, so you can pick.
Stage 1, the sewers
In this stage, you will be IDing potions and scrolls especially strength and upgrade. When you complete the sad ghosts quest get the weapon. The first scroll of upgrade you get goes to the short sword, which you later reforge to upgrade a tier 4 or 5 weapon from the sad ghost if you get it. In the sewers you will be relying mostly on luck finding good equipment.
Boss 1, the Goo
1. walk in the boss room, stopping at the door
2. Take invitory
3. By now you should have some bombs. Use them
4. Next is those honey pots
5. The Goo should be about half life know, so booby trap its path to you, using seeds
6. Plant a seed of earthroot on water, making sure the Goo is on dry land. Note: do not move off of seed of earthroot.
7. Using your tier-4-5 weapon, beat the last few hit points out of him
8. Grab that beacon. you'll need it later
coming soon!

Hi. I've been playing this game for quite a long time now and just wanted to post some more tips.
If you have a good weapon keep fighting Gnoll Brutes in Caves for their gold. You should get enough to buy up the whole D-11 shop.
If you're invisible and trying to go through a piranha room go one step at a time so you don't go rushing at the pedestal and bump into one and end your invisibility.
I know searching takes up loads of turns and I'm still starving because of it, but searching every regular floor tile from D-2 down has probably saved me hundreds of times. Especially in Dwarven City, you won't want to step on a summoning trap. Died on my best run on D-19 when I stepped on one and summoned a golem and a fire elemental. They didn't kill me but I ran away and got killed by a dwarf warlock.
In Dwarven City buy a scroll holder from the D-11 shop before you go to D-16 so your scrolls don't burn from Fire Elementals.
Again in Dwarven City, if you have a spare weapon you might want to leave one near the stairs of a depth that spawns Dwarf Monks (go for D-18) so if you lose your weapon somehow you can try and bait him to the stairs.
Usually I think Ankhs are a complete waste of gold, but if you bought one make sure you leave a weapon on the previous depth if you're about to die because if a monk kills you before you get a chance to pick up your weapon, you'll still have something when you resurrect. You're screwed if you have no weapon at D-19.
For Tengu just chuck bombs and golden bees at him. No probs.
I haven't died to DM-300 before, just turn invisible then find a spot for Earthroot seed and surround yourself with DoT seeds then use a Scroll of Challenge to bring him over. Just use potions of purification so the gas won't damage you. If you have a good weapon you can probably get him without using any Potions of Healing. Just DON'T LET HIM ON THE TRIGGERED TRAPS! He can basically undo half your damage in one or two turns on the traps.
Most if not all of these things are probably covered somewhere else, but they are all in one place here.
Welcome to Pixel Dungeon Strategies!
Strategies to help you throughout the dungeon
There are many strategies that can be used in pixel dungeon. The strategies in this section will help you to just survive all levels of pixel dungeon.
1. Health Potions
Health potions are invaluable in this game. You can never have enough. Look for health potions and hoard them for boss fights and other things. When you get to a shop, buy all the health potions you can. Use a health potion when you are low on health and/or fighting an enemy who deals a lot of damage.
2. Dew Vials
Dew vials are a great resource. They are good for collecting unnecessary dew to use for later. What you need to do is get your dew vial full when you are still in the sewers. When it is full, it will fully replenish your health when an enemy deals a killing blow to you. It is quite literally a lifesaver. If you just cant seem to collect enough dewdrops to fill it up, you can also throw it into a well of health, and it will automatically fill.
3. Shops
Shops are one of the most and least useful things in the game. The items are overpriced and usually not that good. When coming to a shop, (they are on levels 6, 11, 16, and 21) make sure you are buying the right things. One thing that you should never buy is an ankh. They seem really awesome and helpful, but after you re-spawn you will have lost all of your health potions, so you will probably just die really soon again. As said earlier, buy all the health potions you can. They are invaluable, especially in boss fights. If you have any money left over, get a scroll holder. They clear up a lot of inventory space for your journey. If you still have more money, save it because the shop prices just keep getting more expensive the farther you go down.
4. Scrolls of Upgrade/Enchantment
These two scrolls are the most valuable in the game. The biggest problem people have with them are using them unnecessarily. There are two good instances to use a scroll. The first is save them for when your weapon is breaking. Both these scrolls bring your weapon back to full durability. If you just use them all right away, your weapon/armor/ring will just break and you wont have a way to fix it. The second is if you are about to face a boss and your weapon, armor, or ring isn't strong enough. In this case it is okay to splurge a little, just try to save some back for repairs. When using the scroll of upgrade to repair a item, try to do it before it completely breaks or else it wont go up a level. Also, depending on what character class you chose is what you should upgrade.
Warrior = Upgrade Melee Weapon and Armor
Rouge = Upgrade Rings and Armor
Mage = Upgrade Wands and Armor
Huntress = Upgrade Boomerang, Armour, and Melee Weapons
5. Exploration
It is ALWAYS a good idea to completely explore every floor on pixel dungeon. Check every room for items that may be of use on your journey. If you skip rooms, you could be missing valuable items like strength potions and food. If you run into a situation where you cant open a room because it is blocked off by a wooden object and you don't have anything to set it on fire, or it is in a piranha room and you wasted your potion of invisibility, if you are in the sewers, just restart, or else just keep going or hope for the best. Also, never go back up to a floor. This is a waste of food, (As talked about below) and can be completely avoided if you just explore the whole floor.
6. Food Management
This is one of the most annoying issues in the whole game. Your hunger is always just a few steps behind and catching up quick. The best way to conserve food is to not wolf it all down. A rule to ALWAYS follow is never eat more than one food per floor. If you do this, you will starve to death. Sometimes when exploring a big floor, your hunger runs down to starving and you haven't finished exploring. All you need to do is not eat another piece of food for that floor. The biggest reason that is is because going up/down stairs/ladders takes a large portion of your hunger away, so only go down, never up. Another awesome way to conserve food is mystery meat. Don't eat the meat as soon as you get it, because it will most likely give you a debuff. Instead, set the meat on fire with a wand of firebolt, a potion of liquid flame, or some other manner of setting fire to cook it. One you collected two cooked meat, it gives you the same amount of hunger back as a ration of food, so save your food ration for a floor and just eat two cooked meat. Finally, NEVER buy the overpriced food ration. It restores almost no hunger, and as said in the title, is way overpriced.
7. Fighting Common Enemies
One thing that is confusing to many is haw to deal with all these incessant enemies. As is said on the 12th signpost, if you come across multiple enemies, go through a door so they can only attack you one at a time. Really, it is a good idea anytime to fight your enemies while they are in a door. While an enemy is in a door, your chance to hit it with a melee or ranged weapon drastically increases. Doors are one of the most valuable weapons in the game. If you are fighting an enemy that moves 1 tile per turn, lure him into a doorway, then proceed to kill him. It is much faster and easier, and you take a lot less damage.
8. Potion Brewing/Seeds
There are two strategies when it comes to potion brewing. One is for people who don't use seeds for combat, or really anything. If you are one of these people, when you come across a brewing pot and you have 3+ seeds in your inventory, just throw them in the pot to make a potion. You can then use that potion at a later time to help you. If you do use seeds for combat or other uses, one great strategy is buy a seed bag from the shop. When you come across a brewing room, try and only brew potions with seeds that aren't as helpful or seeds that work better as potions. For example, if you have 3 seeds of sungrass, brew them into a healing potion, which is much more effective than waiting multiple turns to heal.
Boss Guide
In this section is strategies to beat the bosses. SPOILER ALERT! If you haven't reached all the bosses, They are revealed down here.
1. Goo
Goo is the first boss found on level 5 of pixel dungeon. He is the boss of the Sewers. When fighting him, first lead him into the door and start to attack him. Continue to attack him until one of two things happen. The first is if you get a debuff called caustic ooze. If you get this, run to the water which will rid you of the effect, but try not to let the goo touch the water, for he gains health every turn he is on water. If the Goo gets 3 exclamation points above his head and the message "Goo is pumping itself up!" pops up, run two spaces away or he will deal a large amount of damage to you. if you are retreating into the hall while Goo is pumping itself up and you come across a corner, make sure to go across the corner diagonally to avoid getting hit. After he starts to chase you again, use a ranged attack for extra damage while he closes the gap, then continue to hit him. If you follow these guidelines, he should be fairly easy to beat.
2. Tengu
Tengu is found on level 10 of pixel dungeon. He is the boss of the Prison. The Tengu is a fairly easy boss. To prepare for him, pick up a bunch or ranged weapons while in he prison. When fighting the Tengu you will be locked in the room with him. Since the Tengu doesn't move unless you get close to him, he is one of the best bosses to use a potion of toxic gas on. It is even better to have a potion of paralytic gas with you too, because when both are used on him at the same time, you can just sit back and watch him take damage, or you can pelt him with ranged weapons. If you have little or no ranged weapons, try and use a potion of invisibility and sneak up and hit him with your melee weapon.
3. DM-300
DM-300 is found on level 15 of pixel dungeon. He is the boss of the caves. DM-300 leaves a trail of Toxic Gas wherever he goes. When fighting him, it is recommended to stay in one spot, because when DM-300 moves, he makes a earthquake which can root you, and when he goes over triggered traps he gains HP. When preparing to fight him, make sure you have a good melee weapon. Other things that are very valuable in this fight are a seed of earthroot and a potion of purification. Just throw down a seed of earthroot, stand in the spot where you threw it, drink a potion of purification, an proceed to exchange blows with DM-300. If you are getting low on health, drink a health potion and continue to exchange blows with DM-300. Just keep doing this until he dies.
4. Dwarf King
The Dwarf King is found on level 20 of pixel dungeon. He is the boss of the Dwarf City. The dwarf king is a fairly predictable boss. He mostly summons Dwarf Skeletons to attack you, then hides behind them. For this attack, too, you should have either have some strong ranged weapons or a good melee weapon. A scroll of mirror image, a scroll of psionic blast, and a wand of amok are both very helpful in this fight. When fighting him, try to ignore the Dwarf Skeletons and focus on the King himself so he doesn't spawn more. If too many skeletons build up, use a scroll of mirror image, a scroll of psionic blast, or a wand of amok for some crowd control. after you've chased down and killed the dwarf king himself, you should finish off the skeletons.
5. Yog-Dzewa
Yog-Dzewa is found on level 25 of pixel dungeon. He is the boss of Demon Halls. He is technically four parts, the rotting fist, the burning fist, the gods larvae, and Yog-Dzewa himself (aka the giant eyeball). When entering the battle, there are multiple things you could do. The best thing to do is to take out the fists, because when they are taken out, it becomes easier to kill the eyeball. First fight the rotting fist, but make sure it doesn't touch the cold lava(water), Or it will gain HP. It has a chance to give you the caustic ooze debuff, and if that happens, step into the cold lava to make it go away. After the rotting fist is defeated, attack the fire fist, but be aware of the ring of fire it is usually surrounded by. Potions of frost are handy when fighting the burning fist. It has a ranged attack, so use ranged weapons if possible, but if you have none, fight it on cold lava with your melee weapon to avoid being burned. All the while when you are fighting the fists, it is VERY important to keep your health rather high. If your health gets below 40 you should probably drink a healing potion. After both fists are dead, proceed to the eyeball. Poison is very helpful when it comes to killing the eyeball. The eyeball itself doesn't move or attack you, but each time you hit it with a melee attack, it spawns a gods larva. each time a gods larva spawns, kill it or else they will slowly accumulate, and a large amount an inflict quite a bit of damage. After you kill the gods larva, continue to attack the eyeball, then kill the larva that spawns. Keep doing that and you should kill the eyeball and win the game!
Hi, just wanted to share some tips.
1. If you get an enchantment scroll, enchant the weapon, not the armor, because if you enchant the armor you might end up getting a really dangerous glyph like multiplicity or affection.
2. For Goo, if you fight him in the corridor you won't have as much space to get away from his pumped up attack, and you have no room. I'd still recommend fighting in the room if you haven't got high level armor.
3. If you put on a cursed low grade armor or low grade ring don't waste a scroll of upgrade on it, use a scroll of remove curse because it's a big waste of an Upgrade scroll.
4. Overpriced food rations are a waste
5. Key rings are a waste of gold
6. Don't throw unidentified potions in an enclosed room (I died on my best run by throwing a toxic gas potion in a room with only 1 door and a skeleton was blocking the door)
