Actually, the Freerunner is very useful against these enemies because they won't be able to attack as frequently when the Hero is approaching one of them. More strategies can be used to avoid one of their attacks like hiding behind a door or a wall to let one of them approach the Hero.

Unless you have a really, really, really upgraded spear, you won't be able to benefit that much from the boost. A normal weapon that does comparable would also be good, but - wait - you don't need extra damage if you have a weapon that good.
