So, I think it's safe to say that most (if not all) of us have encountered all of them by now..
At first glance, I thought nothing of it (hence my lack of comment on it in this thread {'til now} ), but I immediately realized just how much the Warden sub-class got buffed because of it (and even more so, after Ring of Herbalism got added to the game). This realization sparked curiosity as to what else had been affected by this addition.
I've learned that it buffed many enemies:
- flying & ranged enemies (7) are tougher to dispatch at Chasm depths.
- Gnoll Shamans are frighteningly stronger at Flooded depths.
- Fire Elementals are even more frightening to face at Vegetation depths.
- You're plain screwed if you teleport a Giant Piranha in a Flooded depth (you basically just released the Kraken on yourself - 3 for that matter, if you teleported them all).
- And D-13 is the worst depth to have any special Depth Terrain, besides the Secrets one (which is really nothing), due to the enemy types that spawn at that depth & their spawn probability. (combination of all of the above, basically)
It's also made certain fringe playstyles/niche strategies just a bit more viable, too:
- a buffed Wand of Lightning (which got buffed even more with the addition of the Ring of Power & another update), for Flooded depths.
(Can you tell that I've really delved into this? LoL)
So, pretty much, a lot of things got rebalanced; mostly buffs, but some nerfs as well.
On the other side of things, I was slightly bummed that there weren't any depths with a combination of them, i.e. Chasm depth with Flooded walkways, Chasm depth with Vegetation-filled walkways, Flooded depth with Vegetation (swampy?), and/or all 3 in one depth. It would've been a more creatively interesting experience.
Overall, it's pretty cool; and my favorite Depth Terrain has to be the Chasm depth. =D (What Mdsimmo & I discussed in a previous thread.) It's just awesome to look at & a bit scary/thrilling, but fun, to traverse.
