I think the game would be more fun, if there were more characters in the game; each with a new ability to offer.
I already have a suggestion:
Prisoner:
- Begins with 25 health
- Is proficient with identifying weapons, armor, and rings
- Starts with no armor, but has a knuckleduster
- Enemies always drop gold, but they spawn more often
- Shopkeeper charges more gold for items
- Identifies 2 random scrolls, and 2 random potions from the start
Prisoner can only be unlocked through a "special" quest within the Prison depths/stage.
Sub-classes:
- Thug - 1/10th chance to do a "critical" hit.
- Fugitive - has a higher dodge chance, as long as the hunger is satisfied.
