Overview[]

Buttered Pixel Dungeon is a very old modification of Shatttered PD that was released in 1st July, 2015 by Ethan Joyce, and is in abandoned state. Although this is not mentioned explicitly in-game, it is most probably based on version 0.3.0 of Shattered PD from May 2015, as the Mage class has its new (for that time period) features, but the new trap types of v.0.3.1 have not been implemented. As the vast majority of the Shattered PD's current features are missing, this mod can be mostly appealing to vintage lovers. After the player chooses "Play" from the main screen, two options are offered:

Classic[]

It is identical to to version 0.3.0 of Shattered PD without any change implemented at all in the gameplay.

Arena[]

The hero spawns on a depth identical in shape, color and size to that of Yog-Dzewa's, but with the enemies normally encountered on depth 1 of the regular game (i.e marsupial rats). If the hero manages to kill them, a level up is automatically granted, and the hero's HP are replenished. Then the enemies normally encountered on depth 2 of the regular game spawn (gnoll scouts and marsupial rats), and so on.

The number of the enemies spawned in each level is equal to the number of enemies originally spawned on a corresponding depth during a regular game. On level 5, 10, 15 etc. of the hero, the appropriate chapter boss spawns (Goo in level 5, Tengu in level 10 etc.). The only difference from the regular chapter possible boss drops is that they all also drop a Pixel Markt Key - portal, that upon its use it will teleport the hero to another depth (resembling in colors a Demon Halls depth) with only a shop. Other than regular merchandise, the game's containers will be spawning there, one in each visit. After the hero finishes with selling and buying, the Pixel Market Key will teleport back to the main depth and will get spent this way. Lastly, as there is no ascension/descension to new depths, loot is generated randomly with each new level up - enemy respawning.

The progression consumables do not get generated in a guaranteed amount, and are generally very few, so expectedly a hero with, say, only 11 strength and just 1-2 scrolls of upgrade is almost destined not to survive further than Tengu. It is unclear if that is a bug or a conscious decision made by the developer.
