Pixel Dungeon Wiki
Advertisement

This page is mostly directed to two groups of the wiki's readers:

  • Readers who are interested in mods generated from a specific version of Pixel Dungeon, but want to avoid those mods missing some features of their parent because they are based in older versions. In other words, this is a page for example useful to readers that want to try only mods of Shattered PD that use 2.5D graphics, only mods of Remixed Dungeon that include a city on the surface, only mods of Original PD that allow auto-aiming etc. Although effort was invested in the page being as short as possible, the amount of necessary information included still made it end up rather long, so readers interested only in the basic info about which mods are the newest should proceed at the end of each section and consult the tables there, that only display version number, date of release, and mods based on each version.
  • Contributors of the wiki who want to add update details in existing pages of mods or totally new pages that focus on the update history of mods.

Readers who are just interested in a general picture of the available Pixel Dungeon mods and in downloading one or more mod versions should better visit the wiki catalogue of mods instead.

Amulet of yendor

"Mod" is called in the PD context a new game application based on the Pixel Dungeon original source material or on the source material of one of its mods. As mods of the Original PD started getting generated while it was still in active development, and as the vast majority of mods of mods have been generated from parents still in active development, a natural consequence has been a big variation on the versions used as source. Sometimes a child mod will keep following the updates of its parent, but in many cases a mod will be depicting a specific point of its parent's growth/history. In the following sections mods are grouped in families based on their primary parent (which is determined by the game engine/core part of the source code that they use), and inside each group they are listed in chronological/update order, based on the version of their parent that they currently refer to (and not the version that they were originally generated from). Each update version/stage is described in a very short summary, to display the features existing in mods based on up to that point, and missing from the mods based on previous points. Watabou's family has deservedly the first place, but the order of the rest of the families is determined by the amount of their members.

It is probably obvious, but it is good to be mentioned anyway that essentially all mod families are Original PD's and Watabou's, because Original PD is either the direct parent, the grandparent or the grand-grandparent of any PD mod, and each section displays in its title only the direct parent of each family because this is the important information regarding mod influence from updates. Readers interested in the even broader picture of the PD mods genealogy can get that from the mods tree inforgraph created by wiki contributor and redditor Omicronrg9 (in personal communications he has stated that there are some mods missing from his infograph which he plans to add soon in an updated version, but still this infograph and his analysis in a reddit post are the most informative resources currently existing about the issue).

Lastly, many mods (especially of Shattered PD) mention specifically the version they were based on or their developers have shared this information publicly, but many other mods (especially direct mods of Original PD) don't, so in the second case the version was assumed by the wiki based on in-game clues like the existence and absence of source features. As these estimations surely have a bigger chance to be inaccurate than a mod's self identification or a developer's statement, versions are explicitly named as either self identified or estimated.

Note also that plain copies of Original PD or of one of its mods, mods that involve severe violations of the GPL v3 license, and also completely non-functioning mods have been excluded for obvious reasons from the following lists, and also host applications that don't add anything to the mods themselves because they were considered redundant. When a mod name does not include a link but it is just underlined, this means that it does not have a page in the wiki, but readers interested to check out these "no page" mods will most probably find download links for them in the mods catalogue page.

Original Pixel Dungeon - Watabou's family[]

Watabou NPC SPS-PD

From 0.2 until 1.6.3 (11/2013 - 02/2014)[]

No mod has been based on a version older than 1.6.4 and adding details about which old feature was added in which of these versions of Original PD would at least double the size of this subsection, so readers who are interested in these details can visit these links: 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 1.6.0, 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.3. The important landmarks during this period were that in version 0.5 the Demon Halls chapter, the end boss Yog-Dzewa and the Amulet of Yendor as the end game goal were all added, and from the directly next version after 1.6.0 and on the game had exited its beta phase.

1.6.4 (04/2014)[]

This is the oldest version of Original PD that a mod of it was based on, and while the specific mod has other issues as well, it is mentioned here for the completeness of presentation, as it is the mod based on the oldest version. This version's most important additions were the rings of Elements, Herbalism and Power, the Wand Holster container, the Dwarf Monks Imp quest, and the Level feelings (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link).

  • Pixel Maze by Red Point Labs (version status estimated). It should be also noted that it had violated the GPL v3 license upon its first release, and the developer of Original PD had also some other issues with this mod that he shared publicly, while he has generally refrained from commenting about mods of his game.

1.7.0 (05/2014)[]

No mod has been based specifically on this version, but mods based on following versions include additions and changes in this, so a summary about them is also needed. This version's most important additions were the option of a Happy Ending, the Freerunner’s perk "Doubled Dodge while running", the at least one well of Transmutation per game, and the Rat King NPC (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link).

1.7.1 (05/2014)[]

This version's most important addition were the Collapsed Floor and Pit rooms (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link). The mods of Original PD based on this version are:

1.7.2 (08/2014)[]

This version's most important additions were that Immersive mode was added, Challenges were first added (but not the Forbidden Runes yet), the new Weightstone item was introduced, the Blindweed plant was replaced by Dreamweed, Keys were no longer stackable, and Inscriptions started increasing armor DR (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link). The mods of Original PD based on this version are:

  • Desktop version (Watabou & Arcnor - LibGDX port) by Arcnor in collaboration with Watabou (version status self identified)
  • Easier Pixel Dungeon by Vatsar (version status estimated)
  • EZ Dungeon by Appliance Paul (version status estimated). It should be also noted that this mod has serious functionality issues.
  • Loot Dungeon by Senri Hin (version status estimated)
  • Pixel Dungeon Brazil by Wire Way (version status estimated)
  • Pixel Dungeon Prayers by Kenjun (version status estimated)
  • Pixel's Dungeon by Gravity Games (version status estimated, this mod is also incomplete)

1.7.3 & 1.7.4 (10/2014 & 12/2014)[]

No mod has been based specifically on either of these versions, but mods based on following versions include additions and changes in these, so a summary about them is also needed. These versions' most important additions were the Forbidden runes challenge, the second quickslot, that wands get auto-identified after 40 uses, the new Bomb, Honeypot and Key Ring items, the Shocking and Tempered weapon enchantments, that scrolls of Enchantment replace scrolls of Upgrade, that items dropped into chasms can be found on the next depth, and the notorious Degradation of upgradeable items (degradation was specifically added in 1.7.4 - for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link and this link).

1.7.5 (01/2015)[]

This version's most important additions were that the Mimic enemy was added, Durability indicators started showing in the inventory window, scrolls of Enchantment replaced Arcane Styli, using a fully charged wand as a melee weapon precipitated degradation, and both quickslot items started getting displayed in the Ranking window (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link). The mods of Original PD based on this version are:

  • Brave Dungeon by Evie's Games (version status estimated). It should be also noted that this mod has also some functionality issues.
  • Hell Dungeon (version status self identified) by We.Boo
  • Hell Dungeon Rewarded by We.Boo (version status estimated, but as this mod is very similar with the previous mod, just with much bigger depths, and it was made by the same developer, its version status is almost self identified)
  • Pixel Dungeon Easy by Dronester (version status self identified). It should be noted that this mod takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Pixel Dungeon Legends by Naga Chiang (version status self identified)
  • Phoenix Pixel Dungeon by Gojohn (version status estimated). This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should again better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Undegraded Pixel Dungeon by Gojohn (version status self identified)
  • Your Pixel Dungeon by Eric Britsman (version status self identified)

1.8.0 & 1.9.0 (07/2015 & 08/2015)[]

Again no mod has been based specifically on these versions, but mods based on the following version include additions and changes in these, so a summary is also needed. These versions' most important additions were the Curse Personification sad ghost quest and the Phantom Fish wandmaker quest, the Tome of Remastery, the new Sacrificial Chamber room with the Marked for Sacrifice debuff, the new scroll of Wipe Out as a reward from the chamber, the auto-targeting for wands and missile weapons, the replacement of wand of Telekinesis with the wand of Reach, and the change of degradation from having levels decreased to the item keeping its level but getting broken (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link and this link).

1.9.1 (09/2015)[]

This is the version that most of the recent mods of Original PD are based, as it is the most recent version with its source code published. It only important addition is the Auto-repair glyph (for a full list of additions and changes you can visit this link) but obviously it includes all the features of previous versions already mentioned before. The mods of Original PD based on this version are:

  • 3D Pixel Dungeon by Matalok Games (version status self identified)
  • ASCII Dungeon by Unknown developer (version status self identified)
  • Classic Dungeon by MilTy - collective name of a high school students group (version status estimated). This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should again better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Desktop version by LongstoneTorch (version status self identified)
  • Dixel Pungeon by Arfonzo Coward (version status self identified). This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should again better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Dungeon Run WIP by MEM Apps (version status estimated)
  • Easier Vanilla Pixel Dungeon by G2159687 (version status self identified)
  • Perfect Pixel Dungeon by Funny Games NS (version status estimated). This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should again better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Pixel Dungeon Legacy Mode by Retronic Games (version status self identified). With a strict definition this is not actually a PD mod, because Watabou is one of the cofounders of Retronic Games.
  • Pixel Dungeon ML by Rodrigo Pan (version status self identified). See "Pixel Dungeon ML - Rodrigo Pan's family" section below.
  • Pixel unDungeon by Shai Ayal (version status self identified)
  • Random Dungeon by Lighthouse64 (version status self identified). This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should again better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Rat King Dungeon by Evan Debenham (version status self identified). This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, and so you should again better visit its page in the wiki for a fuller picture of it.
  • Shattered Pixel Dungeon by Evan Debenham (version status self identified). See "Shattered Pixel Dungeon - Evan Debenham's family" section below.
  • Skillful Pixel Dungeon by BilbBolDev (version status self identified). See "Skillful Pixel Dungeon - BilBolDev's family" section below.
  • Tunable Pixel Dungeon by Tidalscale Keithr (version status self identified)
  • Unbreakable Pixel Dungeon by SuperSayian99 (version status self identified)
  • Yet Another Pixel Dungeon by Considered Hamster (version status self identified). See "Yet Another Pixel Dungeon - Considered Hamster's family" section below.
  • 像素地牢(繁體中文版) by Kurt Yu (version status estimated)

1.9.2 (12/2015)[]

Original Pixel Dungeon has completed its development with version 1.9.2, but the source code of this last version hasn't been published, so no legitimate PD mod has implemented the features added to this last version (at least not with them directly derived from Watabou's source code but only with independent coding - as already mentioned before, mods seriously violating the GPL license are not listed here). The most important of these features are (for a full list you can visit this link): the Catalogus displays the number of currently owned identified potions and scrolls, the new Berserker’s perk: "The more enemies surrounding the Berserker, the faster he performs his attacks." is added, any wand can be merged with another wand of the same type, and all enemies on a depth get beckoned when the hero or an enemy steps into sacrificial fire.

Moreover there are 3 mods of Original PD (Chernog: Fortress of the Mad Admiral RPG and Pioneer, both developed by Udawos, and Jumpy Rat by NYRDS) which use many assets from Original PD's source code but have no relation at all with its gameplay, so they were excluded from the lists above and a concluding honorable mention here was preferred instead.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon - Evan Debenham's family[]

Shattered PD NPC SPS-PD

Shattered Pixel Dungeon by Evan Debenham (00-Evan in certain social media platforms) is the second oldest PD mod, which is still in active development and is also the first mod in popularity as measured by Google Play, with its downloads surpassing the 1,000,000 threshold. For these and other additional reasons like the mod's frequent updates, the developer's close relationship with the PD fan community etc. Shattered PD's direct mods are more numerous than even those of Original PD, while it has been almost exclusively modded from 2018 and on. Shattered PD has initially started with a "low profile", making a few secondary changes to the source material of Original PD in its first version 0.1.0 released in the summer of 2014, but after some years of many and frequent updates its additional content is enormous, so readers should keep in mind that most of the summaries for each update that follow below are very short in comparison to the detailed version of the changelog and include a selection of the most important changes. Readers interested in more details about the changes and additions of each Shattered PD's update can visit Evan Debenham's blog in Shattered PD's webpage, or can just read in their device the detailed changelog included inside the game that documents the changes and additions of every new version from that summer of 2014 and on. Unlike Original PD in this section there will not be in-wiki links for details leading to each separate version, as the wiki does not have complete pages with detailed information about the history of Shattered PD like it does with Original PD, and readers will have to follow the external link just above or open the changelog in their device (currently, the only exception to this is the most recent update, 0.8.0, which will be linked).

As Shattered PD continues to be in active development, its mods have also to be active in order to keep up with its added content, and inactive mods of it will be getting more and more old fashioned as time goes by. Thus, because this information is relevant in Shattered PD's context each mod will also be described as either abandoned, completed, in hiatus or active.

0.1.0 & 0.1.1 (08/2014)[]

This is the first version of Shattered PD even published and in comparison to all the general updates that have followed it is the most reserved in its changes. No Shattered PD mod has been based on this version, but as most new features of this version still survive in the next versions mentioning them is also needed. The changes of this version were that the scroll of Psionic Blast got stronger and started dealing damage, the scroll of Challenge was renamed to scroll of Rage and started amoking enemies, the Dew Vial was nerfed and stopped reviving the hero but at the same time the Ankh was buffed and started revving the hero after getting blessed with dew, and the Blandfruit food item with its potion-like effects was added. There were also some rebalancings of received features from Original PD (the version that Shattered was originally based on back then was 1.7.2), and for details about these rebalancings you should better visit the game's changelog.

0.2.0 - 0.2.4 (09/2014 - 02/2015)[]

Landmark I: Artifacts

At that point Original PD was still being actively developed, so in this version there were some decisions to include or not include additions and changes in the newer (back then) versions 1.7.3 - 1.7.5 of Original PD. The most important deviations from Original PD were that degradation was not implemented, scroll of Enchantment was not added, scroll of Weapon Upgrade was renamed to Magical Infusion, Bomb explosions were reworked, Keys remained stackable, Blindweed was not removed, and Weightstone was changed to increase either speed or damage. There was also a lot of original content added as well: the Potion Bandolier container and the Merchant's Beacon items were added, 7 rings were removed and the Alchemist's Toolkit, Cape of Thorns, Chalice of Blood, Cloak of Shadows. Dried Rose, Horn of Plenty, Master Thieves' Armband, Sandals of Nature, Timekeeper's Hourglass, Unstable Spellbook artifacts were added with some of them having similar functionality with the removed rings, the Dreamfoil and Stormvine plants were added, shattering a potion of Levitation started creating a confusion gas blob, various details in the hero's remains were changed, the Gnoll Trickster and Great Crab sad ghost quests were added. Lastly, the desktop version mirroring the android version started becoming available. The mods of Shattered PD based on this version are:

  • Loot Dungeon Shattered I by Senri Hin (based specifically on version 0.2.2, version status estimated) - Completed. Based on the version it used, this is the most old fashioned Shattered PD mod.
  • Soft Pixel Dungeon by Wolispace (based specifically on version 0.2.3, version status self identified) - Completed
  • Sprouted Pixel Dungeon by Dachhack (based specifically on version 0.2.4, version status self identified) - In hiatus. See "Sprouted Pixel Dungeon - Dachhack's family" section below.

0.3.0 - 0.3.5 (05/2015 - 05/2016)[]

Landmark II: Traps, Wands. Mage & Warrior reworked

This is the last version of Shattered PD that was released with Original PD still being in development (first v.1.8 was gradually published and then the last releases with their code public v.1.9.0 and 1.9.1) but in this stage of development no decisions to include or not additions and changes are mentioned specifically in the changelog, with only the exception of some "visual improvements from the 1.9.1 source". That said, some changes and additions were ported to Shattered PD from Original PD: from v.1.8 the Badges' screen layout, the Scrollpanes displaying scroll position, and the Improved game log, and from v.1.9 the Read animation and the New visual effects (note the that the source code of 1.9.2 has never been published). A few other changes in Original PD had been already implemented autonomously in Shattered PD and were not actually ported. All in all there isn't really a significant difference between Shattered PD being based on 1.9.1 or 1.7.5.

The most important changes and additions of this version were that the wands of Avalanche, Blink, Flock, Teleportation were removed, the wands of Prismatic Light and Transfusion were added, the wands of Firebolt, Slowness, and Telekinesis were changed to the the wands of Fireblast, Frost and Blast Wave, the wands of Disintegration, Lightning, and Magic Missile were reworked, wands gained unique sprites and started being known by default and having the chance to be cursed, the Battlemage, Berserker, Gladiator, and Warlock subclasses were reworked and became in their basic features rather similar to their current form in Shattered PD, the Mage's Staff was added as a unique starting weapon of the Mage class, the Warrior went down to 10 starting strength, his shortsword could not be reforged anymore but gained the Seal item, the Ethereal Chains and Lloyd's Beacon artifacts were added, the Alchemist's Toolkit artifact was removed (it would reappear many versions later in 0.7.0), the spear gained +1 range, Blessed Ankhs were changed to revive with only 1/4 HP, 20 new trap types were added, the Tome of Mastery stopped spawning in the inventory if a class had gained it in a previous run, the Corpse Dust and Rotberry Seed quest of the old wandmaker were changed and the Elemental Embers quest was added to his options, the Prison Guard enemy was added, Thieves started having the chance to escape with a stolen item and disappear, the Tengu fight was changed to having an intermediate stage with a randomly generated labyrinth (a feature that it would remain for many versions until 0.7.5), the game started supporting different languages and the Chinese, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish translations became available. The amount of rebalancings of already existing features is also big, so for details about these rebalancings you should better visit the game's changelog. The mods of Shattered PD based on this version are:

  • Minecraft Pixel Dungeon I by CaptainTotes & SariusDev (based specifically on version 0.3.3, version status self identified) - Abandoned
  • Shattered Ice Dungeon by SariusDev (based specifically on version 0.3.0, version status self identified) - Abandoned and Incomplete
  • Unleashed Pixel Dungeon by Father Nature/David Mitchell (version status estimated) - Abandoned. See "Unleashed Pixel Dungeon - Father Nature's family" section below.

0.4.0 - 0.4.3 (06/2016 - 10/2016)[]

Related blog posts: v. 0.4.0, 0.4.1, 0.4.2, 0.4.3

Landmark III: Weapons, Glyphs & Curses

The most important changes and additions of this version were that 13 new weapons, 3 new weapon enchantments, 8 new armor glyphs, and 12 new curses were added, curses started giving negative effects, upgrading started reducing strength requirements less, armors gained +1 strength requirement, and the scroll of Remove Curse started removing only one curse from a specific item. The amount of rebalancings of already existing features is huge, so for details about these rebalancings you should better visit the game's changelog. The mods of Shattered PD based on this version are:

  • Corrupted Pixel Dungeon by (Qi (based specifically on version 0.4.3, version status self identified) - Current status forthcoming
  • Darkest Pixel Dungeon by egoal (based specifically on version 0.4.2, version status self identified) - Active. This mod includes a big amount of original content.
  • Teller's Pixel Dungeon by Teller (based specifically on version 0.4.3, version status self identified) - Current status forthcoming

Moreover, there is a mod of Shattered PD named DaiDuo Dungeon by Badcw/Lightning about which the exact version it was based on and its current status are forthcoming (nevertheless, the version it was based on was certainly previous from the directly following 2.5D graphics update).

There is also a mod of Shattered PD named Unist Pixel Dungeon that does not explicitly state the version it was based, but the visual and gameplay changes made in it are so drastic that no specific assumption can be made about the version it was based on, other than that was certainly previous from the directly following 2.5D graphics update.

0.5.0 (02/2017)[]

Related blog posts: v. 0.5.0

Landmark IV: 2.5D graphics

This is the smallest general update, even compared to 0.1.0, if we just count the amount of new features added, but it contains the for many players still most distinguishing feature of Shattered PD that separates it from other mods and Original PD and makes it more preferable: the switch to 2.5D graphics. All the other changes of this version were a few rebalancings and the addition of Esperanto and Indonesian translations. No mod of Shattered PD has been based on this version.

0.6.3 (02/2018)[]

There were also some rebalancings in familiar features and for details about these you should better visit the game's changelog. The mod of Shattered PD based on this version is:

The most important change in this version was the complete rework of the Alchemy mechanic with approximately 40 new craftable items added (including 12 exotic scrolls, 12 exotic potions, and 10 runestones) which their recipes started getting displayed in the alchemy guide pages, and with the alchemical energy stat introduced for alchemy pots, but many other changes and additions were also made: the Unstable Spellbook was changed to give an option between casting a regular or an exotic scroll, Blandfruits were changed to mimic exactly their potion equivalents and to drop chunks when thrown, the Cape of Thorns and Lloyd's beacon were removed and the Goo and DM-300 started dropping alchemical ingredients, the Master Thieves' Armband became a regularly dropping artifact, the Alchemist's Toolkit returned with a somewhat different function related to the new alchemical energy stat, the Blandfruit seed and wells of Transmutation were removed and the scroll of Transmutation was added, the Swiftthistle plant and the associated regular potion of Haste were added, one alchemy room at least became guaranteed to spawn per chapter, the wand of Transfusion was changed to only heal allies, damage undead enemies and charm the rest, the wand of Regrowth was nerfed and until it reached level +12 it began being unable at some point to keep spawning vegetation, the scroll of Teleportation started preferring secret or unexplored areas as destinations, the Basque translation was added. There were also many other rebalancings in familiar features and for details about these you should better visit the game's changelog. The mod of Shattered PD based on this version is:

Landmark IX: Huntress reworked

The most important changes and additions of this version were that the Huntress class and the Sniper and Warden subclass perks and special abilities were all heavily reworked and started resembling more or less their current form in Shattered PD, including the new sniper special attacks and warden unique effects when trampling vegetation (also the new furrowed grass tile was added as a consequence, and the Spirit Bow replaced the boomerang as a starting ranged weapon of the huntress), all hero classes apart from the warrior started needing a badge obtained to get unlocked, thrown weapons started having tiers. There were also some rebalancings in familiar features and for details about these you should better visit the game's changelog.

A mod of Shattered PD that has been based on this version is Overgrown Pixel Dungeon's most publicly available version, 0.0.2a, but the wiki describes its currently latest version, 0.0.3, which is based on version 0.7.3 of Shattered PD with some features from 0.7.4.

    • Note: This version estimation refers to Overgrown PD's latest release, numbered 0.0.3 and available in its discord server. To be more accurate about it, it is actually 0.7.3 1/2 as the two wands of 0.7.4 have been added but not other of its features. Various hosting sites also offer an APK for download for this mod, but this is the last that was available before it getting withdrawn from Play Store, it is numbered 0.0.2a and is estimated to be based on version 0.7.1 of Shattered PD.

  • Yet Another Shattered Dungeon by SmuJamesB (version status self identified) - Active. Although this mod uses Shattered PD's game engine and follows its core mechanics (despite the first part of its name), it is also moderately inspired by Yet Another Pixel Dungeon.

There is also an active mod of Shattered PD named Yoruitaru TouHou Pixel Dungeon by Ren for which more information about the version that it was based on is forthcoming, but the totally immense amount of its additional content makes the specific version information rather irrelevant anyway.

0.8.1 (06/2020)[]

Its summary remains to be added. No mod of Shattered PD is based on this version.

0.8.2 (08/2020)[]

The most important addition in this update was an additional equipment slot in the inventory, and the addition of an in-game blog that took blog posts from Evan's website, shatteredpixel.com. This update gave rebalances, buffs, and nerfs to several wands, rings, and weapons. This also gave the Ring of Energy the ability to charge artifacts as well. The mods of Shattered PD based on this version is:

  • Hollow Dungeon by Quasistellar (version status self identified ) - Active. This mod also takes many liberties with its source material, so the similarities with Shattered PD are limited to some general gameplay features.
  • Too Cruel Pixel Dungeon by Dreamfools (version status self identified) - Active

Sprouted Pixel Dungeon - Dachhack's family[]

Dachhack NPC SPS-PD

[Note: Sprouted Pixel Dungeon's logo is just a generic green chest while Dachhack himself does not use an avatar in his PD related social media accounts, so his depiction in SPecial Surprise Pixel Dungeon's Dolya Town was preferred instead.]

As it was already mentioned previously Sprouted Pixel Dungeon is an old mod of Shattered PD, based on its 0.2.4 version. In corporate public platforms like the Google Play Store it appears as abandoned, because its last update is recorded as being in the spring of 2017, but its developer has been releasing new betas for testing by players as recently as the January of 2020, so it is actually still actively developed, just not very publicly. Also the 0.2.4 version of Shattered PD that it was based on makes Sprouted PD and its mods relatives of the Shattered PD family, they are nevertheless distant ones, because out of the 10 landmarks of Shattered PD noted before, Sprouted PD only shares the first, which is the addition of artifacts. As a matter of fact, if Sprouted PD was also including degradation as one of its features, it could be considered much more similar to Original PD than to Shattered PD. That said, based on the source code used it is objectively a Shattered PD mod, and so its mods are also Shattered PD's grandchildren, and Original PD's grand-grandchildren.

An interesting detail is also that while Sprouted PD is certainly a less popular preference for new modders in comparison to Shattered PD, it nevertheless consistently got modded in every year from 2015 until 2019, with 2016 as the only exception. All of its mods with the exception of one are based on its current version, fortunately for the wiki because the information available from Dachhack about the features added in each of Sprouted's updates is rather limited and hard to find. So because most of Sprouted PD's mods are based on the current version and information is limited, this section will be rather short: one part for the old version of Sprouted PD that Deistic Pixel Dungeon is based on, and a second part about the features added in the current and just previous versions that all the rest of its mods are based on. The chronologies and version numbers are derived from Dachhack's release posts in reddit.

0.2.0, 0.2.5, 0.2.6, 0.3.0 & 0.3.5 (07/2015 - 09/2015)[]

In these versions the depths became much bigger and many more enemies started dropping meat to facilitate the increased exploring, the Dew system was revised to create more upgrade opportunities, the Twinkerer quests were added with the first being very important as the hero had to choose between Draw Out or Water with Dew, Wraiths and grave hunting became a major part of the game progression, the ring of Wealth became an item only dropped twice per game and much more important for game progression, the Book and the Key depths were added with unique enemies and reward items encountered only there, the Berries, Honey, Mushrooms, and Nuts food items were added and also the Golden Dungeon Nut reward, the Phase Pitcher and Upgrade Eater plants were added, Rogue started being able to craft bomb types only accessible to him, the Spork quest reward and he Chainsaw Hand drop weapons were added along with the Mr. Destructo combat item, reinforcing items with Adamantite became available, the Rat Boss, Shinobi, Broken Robot, Lich and Demon Goo regular enemies were added and also the new end-game (for these versions) boss Shadow Yog. The only mod of Sprouted PD that is based on these versions, spefically on the last one 0.3.5, is Deistic Pixel Dungeon by Average Mormon Gamer, a mod that it can be considered Abandoned, and that ends with beating the Shadow Yog boss.

0.4.0 - 0.4.2 (08/2016 - 03/2017)[]

The basic version among these three is 0.4.0 as the other two contained only minor rebalancings and bug fixes. In this version the Otiluke's Journal item was added that gave access to 6 new depths + 1 new game area (4 puzzle depths with unique rewards, 2 other depths with a unique reward, and the Dolyahaven surface depth that leaded to the appr. 10 depths of the Dolyahaven Mines and the Shadow Golem Otiluke depth, who is the second to last game boss). After the hero beated Shadow Golem Otiluke the end-game boss depth with Zot became available. Some more additions and changes were the introduction of five tier 6 weapons (a tier essential for end-game), the buffing of pets and some new end-game "regular" enemies like the Kupuas, Gullins, Magic Eyes, Otiluke's Sentinels and Zot Mirror Images, which are encountered from the Dolyahaven Mines and on. All the other mods of Sprouted PD are based on this version, specifically 0.4.1 (0.4.2 is a beta, non public version). These are:

  • Easier Sprouted Pixel Dungeon by G2159687 - almost Completed/Abandoned
  • Harder Sprouted Pixel Dungeon by SmuJamesB - Active. It should be noted about this mod that although its changes and additions are all secondary, it fixes all the bugs of original Sprouted PD, some of which are very serious and game-crashing.
  • Palantir by Quasistellar - Active. Although this is certainly a Sprouted PD mod, from the whole amount of content of Sprouted PD it keeps only the Sokoban puzzles and adds one original puzzle, while it removes all combat-related items, so it is actually a puzzle game and not a roguelike.
  • Regrown Pixel Dungeon by Daniel Slivinskiy - Abandoned and Incomplete.
  • Mod-SPecial Surprise Pixel Dungeon by Hmdz001. This mod is based on Sprouted PD's game engine and source code, and keeps the general structure of its parent, but also adds a totally huge amount of content to its source material, while it also borrows features from some other PD mods as well.

NYRDS family[]

Nyrdie NPC SPS-PD

[Note: For reasons explained with more details in the paragraphs below, for some of the mods of this family NYRDS is more a distributor that a participating developer, and Remixed Dungeon just provides them with a specific coding environment instead of actual content, so the depiction of NYRDS in SPecial Surprise Pixel Dungeon's Dolya Town was also preferred instead of the Remixed Dungeon logo.]

The relations in this family are rather complicated and not always close or cordial. To start with, the most popular member of this family (as a matter of fact very popular as it is second in Play Store popularity / downloads number after Shattered PD) is Remixed Dungeon by NYRDS, which is a mod of Pixel Dungeon ML, in the sense that the NYRDS team borrowed from Pixel Dungeon ML the general structure of different languages localization in which string resources were moved to actual resource files instead of just being scattered all over the codebase (source: personal communication with NYRDS). Coding-wise this is very important, but the original in-game content used from ML is none at all, because basically Pixel Dungeon ML is just a translation of Original PD into many languages other than English.

Moving to the mods of Remixed Dungeon, these belong to two categories: A) Mods incorporated in Remixed Dungeon in most of which NYRDS has no active participation in developing them and just distributes them with Remixed Dungeon, while the actual game content shared with them is from little to minimal and basically offers to them an Appication Program Interface that they can use. B) Mods of Remixed Dungeon that do use content from it but half of them are just clones of an old version of Remixed Dungeon. So the version of Remixed Dungeon that a mod of it uses is only relevant / game related to the second group of its mods, and in this group the non-clones are only 3. In conclusion, details about versions will be given only for the second group of mods (from which the clones will be exluded from being mentioned), and the mods of the first group will be just mentioned by name (including the developer when their name is publicly known).

A1) Mods incorporated into Remixed Dungeon also available in English[]

  • Faith by Pavel Provotorov
  • Maze by [forthcoming]
  • PD Mini by Вадим Петин
  • PD Vanilla by DeadDie44
  • Remixed Additions by Monika

A2) Mods incorporated into Remixed Dungeon only available in Russian[]

  • Conundrum by [forthcoming]
  • D.U.N.G.E.O.N by [forthcoming]
  • The Dungeon of Heroes by Вадим Петин
  • The Epic Dungeon by Kek

B) Mods indepedent from Remixed Dungeon[]

  • Remake Pixel Dungeon by Cuneytoner and Pixel Ponies!  by A. Wolf and Michael Pinnegar are both based on an older version of Remixed Dungeon that does not include a city on the surface among other many current features: version 25.4 fix 1, released in October of 2016 (for both mods this is estimated and not explicitly stated in-game).

The most important additions and changes that were made in Remixed Dungeon up to this version were: Easy and Expert modes and the save & load functions with ads, the Elf and Necromancer classes with their subclasses and unique items, the Spider Lair, Necropolis and Demon's Nest chapters along with new enemies (Amber Spider, Air Elemental, Armored Statue, Gnoll Zombie, Golden Statue, Lich chapter boss, Pseudo Rat, Psi Spider, Runic Skull, Shadow Lord chapter boss, Spider Guard, Spider Queen chapter boss, Spider Soldier, Treacherous Spirit) and items (Black Skull, Spider Armor, Spider Charm), Yog'-Dzewa was moved to the end of Demon's Nest and gained the ability to spawn 5 different mini bosses but up to 3 in each fight, the depth 27 Shopkeeper, Necromancer and Scarecrow NPCs were added, new arrow types, the series of Chaos items (Crystal, Sword, Staff, Bow), the scrolls of Curse and Domination, Spear and Glaive started getting considered polearms (gained +1 reach but became slower), the Crossbow, Golden Sword and Sacrificial Sword weapons, tier 6 armor and weapons, new food items like the Pumpkin Pie, barrels became potentionally explosive, the moistening and writing scrolls with stylus functions, seeds started being available for eating, the Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Spanish, Turkish translations became available.

  • Pixel Dungeon 2 by Sand from Glass is the mod of Remixed Dungeon based on the more recent version in comparison (27.3 fix 2 of November 2017) which is still old, but not so much to not include a city on the surface. For this mod the version is also estimated and not explicitly stated in-game.

The most important additions and changes that were made in Remixed Dungeon from version 25.4 fix 1 up to 27.3 fix 2 were: the City on the surface with its buildings and NPCs (Fortune Teller that identifies, Library, Movie Theater with its ads generating gold function, Shop, Plague Doctor with his rat hide quest, Town Priest that heals), the Ice Caves chapter (4 new enemies, a new Boss, new Caged Kobold NPC, wand of Icebolt, Candle of Visions artifact), the scroll of Summoning, the Elven Dagger starting item, every kind of container available at the town's shop, the introduction of the spell system and of the mana bar and magic level for all classes, Mana Potion, Tome of Knowledge, Spell Book, Portals in the city on the surface and after defeating each chapter boss, Potions became upgradeable with scrolls, wand of Shadow Bolt.

Anonymous PD / Typedscroll's family[]

TypedScroll logo

Anonymous PD is a rather recent alias of TypedScroll, under which he has released his most recent mod, Overgrown Pixel Dungeon. Overgrown PD is the only member of this family that has a proper child, Survival Pixel Dungeon by Luna, as the rest of the family's members resemble the reproduction of workers by a Queen Bee: Plugin Pixel Dungeon is a version of almost the latest Lovecraft Pixel Dungeon that allows to turn off and on features of it, while Statistics Pixel Dungeon is another, short-lived member of the family that introduced itself as a revamped Lovecraft Pixel Dungeon with less bugs, nevertheless its bugs were even more serious and it was soon abandoned, inheriting some ot its features to Overgrown Pixel Dungeon, with all the mods mentioned so far apart from Survival PD having been developed only by AnoymousPD/TypedScroll in regards to their code. In this context of a pool with commonly shared features among the mods of the same developer the only relevant update info is that about Survival Pixel Dungeon: it is based on version 0.0.2 of Overgrown PD, which in its turn was based on version 0.7.1 of Shattered PD (current Overgrown PD is based on 0.7.4). The versions of Shattered PD that each of the mods developed by TypedScroll refers to have alreaby been mentioned in the Shattered PD section.

Pixel Dungeon ML - Rodrigo Pan's family[]

Prayers

As it was mentioned already Pixel Dungeon ML by Rodrigo Pan has only one child, Remixed Dungeon by NYRDS, and that in the sense that the NYRDS team borrowed from Pixel Dungeon ML the general structure of different languages localization in which string resources were moved to actual resource files instead of just being scattered all over the codebase, while the original in-game content used from ML in Remixed Dungeon is none at all, because basically Pixel Dungeon ML is just a translation of Original PD into many languages other than English. In this context the version of Pixel Dungeon ML that Remixed dungeon was based on will not matter much to players, but it seems to be its current version 1.9.1.10.

Skillful Pixel Dungeon - BilBolDev's family[]

Bilboldev NPC SPS-PD

Skillful Pixel Dungeon by BilBolDev has only one child, Pixel Dungeon Echo by Kyle Chatman, which has been released very recently, in December of 2019. For this reason PD Echo shares the same version with its parent (0.4.5), missing only a few minor details that were added very recently in Skillful PD in builds 100 and 101 (still of v. 0.4.5).

Unleashed Pixel Dungeon - Father Nature's family[]

Unleashed Pixel Dungeon

Unleashed Pixel Dungeon by Father Nature/David Mitchell has also only one child, Goblins Pixel Dungeon by Locastan/Mario Braun. As Unleashed Pixel Dungeon has not been updated since the winter of 2016, while Goblins Pixel Dungeon is still in active (while slow) development, the child is expectedly up to date with the most recent version of its parent (0.2.8), which in its turn was based on a very old version of Shattered PD (0.3.0).

Yet Another Pixel Dungeon - Considered Hamster's family[]

ConsideredHamster NPC SPS-PD

Last but not least, Yet Another Pixel Dungeon by ConsideredHamster has also only one child, No Name Yet Pixel Dungeon by RavenWolf. No Name Yet PD was originally based on the just previous (0.3.1j) than the current (0.3.2a) version of Yet Another PD, but in its last update No Name Yet PD seemed to get synchronized with changes in the last version of Yet Another PD, while it did not implement them in their exact form. As these two developers have generally a collaborating relationship, in this specific case the influences are more of the reciprocal type, than of the linear "parent influences child" type.
