+ | Currently, Remixed Dungeon has added four completely new stages apart from those present in the original game. Not all of them are compulsory though the main dungeon is effectively larger than in vanilla, extending from depth 0 to depth 31 and divided into six compulsory plus three optional stages. There's also a surface floor (depth 0) where you start the game. |

+ | |
||
⚫ | Since version 26.1, all characters start from depth 0; a village that has grown up due to the great amount of adventurers that have been travelling there because of the enourmous dungeon that lies beneath. You can meet several NPCs, but no known enemies dwell in the village. It should be noted that being in the surface does not grant you any debuff immunity. |
||
⚫ | |||
⚫ | |||
⚫ | |||
+ | The village is still surrounded by a wall and located in a snowy forest but it doesn't cover the entire depth map unlike past versions of it. There are five accesible houses and buildings, plus the dungeon entrance and the portal. The inn is not still accessible, but it will potentially be in future versions. |
||
⚫ | |||
+ | Regarding its shape, the village (and its buildings) has been changing since its birth and due to the particular RD depth system, each accessible building leads you to its own "depth". The most accurate description dated on (31/10/2020) is the following: |
||
− | Surface is divided on several places: two outside zones and four inside zones (interior of buildings). |
||
+ | <br /> |
||
− | === Outside zones: === |
||
− | Remixed Dungeon manages depths differently, in the way the same floor can be splitted in various maps, not necessarily bonded. The result is that various maps are effectively at the same depth. In the case of Surface, the outside map is divided in two. |
||
− | ==== <u>Town |
+ | ==== <u>Town portal</u> ==== |
+ | |
||
− | The most important, connected to the town outskirts, and both to the exit door and the dungeon entrance. ( "6", "1" and "5" in the map respectively). It consists on various buildings (some of them currently just decoration, but others accessible) This is the map where you spawn when starting a game, where you can access to the first quest and where you have to optionally return when Amulet of Yendor obtained (specifically you must go to the depth exit, located at the North). |
||
+ | Marked as "1" in the first image, it was first located on a different depth. Now it can be found south of the village. Portals are a new mechanic in Remixed Dungeon. They're located after each compulsory boss floor, allowing you to return to the surface once you activate them. Touching a portal in the dungeon activates it and touching it again will open a confirmation window. The surface portal only reminds the last point where you come from, so It only works as a shortcut to surface and doesn't allow you to travel directly between chapters. |
||
⚫ | |||
− | this is the place where you appear when going through a portal located between different compulsory stages. |
||
− | It consists in one path that connects the portal with a gate that leads to the interior of the town. There's another way leading to a clear path in the same map (as seen on it) with an still unknown purpose. |
||
− | === |
+ | ==== <u>Shop</u>==== |
+ | Marked as "7" in the first image, this shop is the first and largest one you will find in game. It has some special features not shared with other shops you'll encounter through the game. More specifically: |
||
− | Currently there are five accesible buildings inside of town, but a sign on a sixth one (The inn) marks that probably there will be more in the future. |
||
+ | <br /> |
||
⚫ | |||
+ | |||
− | Owned by a typical Shopkeeper, this shop is the largest one of the game, which is located in the center of the map, marked with a "$" (and with a "2" here) sign: |
||
− | * |
+ | *Selling goods in this shop will automatically make them to be purchasable (for a much higher price than you've sold them) here. |
− | * |
+ | *Buying an item will trigger the generation of another random purchasable item. |
− | * |
+ | *All bags are sold in this shop. You won't find bags in shops inside the dungeon anymore. |
+ | |||
− | * Since version <u>28.5 (beta 1.4)</u> the shop system has been reworked, and now it comes in the form of a interactable window in which you can see all shopkeeper's possesions (exactly like sell window works) instead of getting near the tile with the stuff you want to buy. |
||
+ | Regarding shops overall, the shop system was reworked on version 28.5 (beta 1.4) , and now an interactable window where you can see all shopkeeper's possesions (exactly like sell window works) is shown instead of "one-tile-per-item" vanilla inherited system. Also, when items are stacked, you don't need to trade with them one by one; fixed quantities and "buy/sell all" option were included.<gallery widths="172" spacing="medium" position="center"> |

Currently, Remixed Dungeon has added four completely new stages apart from those present in the original game. Not all of them are compulsory though the main dungeon is effectively larger than in vanilla, extending from depth 0 to depth 31 and divided into six compulsory plus three optional stages. There's also a surface floor (depth 0) where you start the game.
Surface[]
Overview[]
Since version 26.1, all characters start from depth 0; a village that has grown up due to the great amount of adventurers that have been travelling there because of the enourmous dungeon that lies beneath. You can meet several NPCs, but no known enemies dwell in the village. It should be noted that being in the surface does not grant you any debuff immunity.
The surface depth has its own song different from the ones played in the dungeon.
The village is still surrounded by a wall and located in a snowy forest but it doesn't cover the entire depth map unlike past versions of it. There are five accesible houses and buildings, plus the dungeon entrance and the portal. The inn is not still accessible, but it will potentially be in future versions.
Regarding its shape, the village (and its buildings) has been changing since its birth and due to the particular RD depth system, each accessible building leads you to its own "depth". The most accurate description dated on (31/10/2020) is the following:
Town portal[]
Marked as "1" in the first image, it was first located on a different depth.
Shop[]
Marked as "7" in the first image, this shop is the first and largest one you will find in game. It has some special features not shared with other shops you'll encounter through the game. More specifically:
- Selling goods in this shop will automatically make them to be purchasable (for a much higher price than you've sold them) here.
- Buying an item will trigger the generation of another random purchasable item.
- All bags are sold in this shop. You won't find bags in shops inside the dungeon anymore.
Regarding shops overall, the shop system was reworked on version 28.5 (beta 1.4) , and now an interactable window where you can see all shopkeeper's possesions (exactly like sell window works) is shown instead of "one-tile-per-item" vanilla inherited system. Also, when items are stacked, you don't need to trade with them one by one; fixed quantities and "buy/sell all" option were included.
Library[]
- The library, marked as "5" (first image), is presumably managed by the Librarian NPC. The main function of this building is to compile the whole data you get from your runs. It contains a Bestiary and an item list stored in the same interactable tile, the "Library Book"
- The library was the home of the sociologist (aka Nyrdie), an NPC put there to collect players' opinions about some features of the game presumably submitted in the VK Remixed Dungeon community.
- Some built-in mods use the upper ladder, but it's currently non-interactable in the usual game.
Fortune-Teller's cabin[]
- (Marked as "6" in the first image)This is the home of the fortuneteller, a mysterious NPC who will reveal your items' secrets for a small price. The trapdoor is inaccesible and the bed useless. There's a black cat resting on the carpet. If you kill the black cat by shooting it (There's no other way to kill it), you will get -1 strengh.
Movie Theatre[]
Marked with "2" in the first image, the movie theatre is a controversial building guarded by the employee, who will ask you to watch a movie (an ad) in exchange of giving you some gold (which is by the way the opposite to what happens in real life).
Church[]
Since version 28.5, church is accessible for players.
Most information about the church is still unknown. The Bishop is in front of a pedestal which holds a holy book, surrounded by big candles.
Behind the main nave there is a wall with a locked door which guards another room with a place for eating (the table and two chairs) and a bed. Also there's a stairway that presumably leads to a cellar.
However this place seems inaccessible as there doesn't seem to be keys "0#" in the dungeon yet.
NPCs:[]
Townsfolk:[]
Townsfolk | ||
One of the locals. Even though this is clearly a commoner, those clothes does look expensive.
These guys are completely passive and immune to damage. They offer you some dialogue about lore and trivial stuff. You can find them all over the map, along with town guards.
Townsfolk | ||
One of the locals. Even this is clearly a commoner, those clothes does look expensive.
These ones would insist you to go to the "movie theater".They're also passive, and immune to everything.
Town Priest:[]
Town priest is located at the entrance of the church, next to the cementery. He is also immune to any attack or debuff.
Town priest | ||
And old man. Somehow he looks like someone who would be making wands.
Currently, the priest is the most useful NPC in the surface, as He possesses the ability of fully healing and satiating you in exchange of a small amount of gold, that varies with the game difficulty you've chosen at the beginning of the game.
– Easy mode: 75 Gold.
– Normal mode: 112 Gold.
– Expert mode: 150 Gold.
Also, Town priest can fully heal your allies for a price, that in this case depends of the number of injured allies you currently have. In order to unlock the Gnoll Class you must bring one Gnoll Brute to the priest, and "persuade him" to heal the gnoll. Basically, getting the gnoll injured in the surface and use Priest's second function will make you get that class.
Town Bishop:[]
Located inside of the church, the bishop seems to be the local religious chief in the townarounds.
Bishop | ||
Bishop of the Holy Church of Santa the Depth Lord.
Town Bishop is another considerably useful NPC. He offers two different services for a fee which scale by exp. level and with the difficulty you have chosen at the beginning of the run.
– Remove curse service. Acting like a scroll of Remove Curse, he will dispel the curse of all your items. The cost is not affected by the number of cursed items you have.
– Holy Blessing: The bishop grants you a "Holy Blessing" buff. You can choose either "Lesser bless" that will give you 100 turns or great bless for 1000 turns. Keep in mind that the cost of the great bless will be 4 times the price of the lesser bless.
Suprisingly, he's vulnerable to attacks, and a single arrow can put him down, but doing that will kill you if your HP is below 15 and will drain all your mana independently, so killing him is obviously not recommended. Furthermore, killing the bishop has a permanent penalty: your max health gets halved.
Fortune-teller: []
Fortune-teller | ||
This woman is dressed in a long, brightly colored robe. She looks suprisingly young for someone, who mastered arcane arts of fortune-telling. Coming closer, you can hear her mumbling, as she stares in crystal ball.
Located inside of her cabin, she is a very useful NPC. She will identify you one item you carry. This is the only reliable way Gnoll Class can identify items (apart from Wells of Awareness which aren't guaranteed to appear).
Black Cat:[]
Black cat | ||
This is black cat.
This cat is doing ordinary cat things. |
||
This black cat doesn't do anything, at least if you don't kill it. It is the only vulnerable (apart from the Shopkeeper) NPC in the whole town, and it can be killed by a wand/ranged weapon, and it can be affected by debuffs. Killing a black cat in Remixed will cause the character h point.
, which is the lowest any character could reach that way.
Town Guards:[]
Town guard. | ||
A regular town guard | ||
Town guards are supposed to protect citizens from monsters and savage animals from the dungeon below. Actually they're passive, invulnerable, and motionless. However, they currently have motion and attacking animations which can be found in the game assets.
Note: there seems to be four kinds of guards drawn, although only one is currently in-game.
Since version 28.5, guards wear a sword.
Shopkeeper:[]
Shopkeeper | ||
This guy is a typical shopkeeper. You can tell he already knows your price.
The surface shopkeeper is located inside the shop building. He is vulnerable, so attacking will make him disappear with all of his goods, as a typical shopkeeper would do when attacked.
Plague Doctor:[]
Plague doctor | ||
This hunchbacked man is completely covered in leather. He strongly smells of medications and... garlic?
Appeared in version Remifx 26.3.fix.2, Plague Doctor is a suspicious and a bit paranoid guy who will ask you to give him 5 rat hides, as he fears there's a disease spreading among the rats that could reach the village, hence he needs proofs. Plague Doctor gives you a "Rat armor" in exchange, which is as effective as Leather armor but requires 9 Strength, like a cloth one.
Sociologist (aka Nyrdie):[]
Sociologist was a NPC located inside the village library.
Sociologist | ||
This is sociologist in a holy quest of collecting public opinion.
This NPC offered you to take part in a survey maintained by developers. This survey usually consisted in questions where you were asked about your thoughts on some hypothetical additions.
Librarian:[]
Librarian | ||
A very shy person, wearing an awkward looking sweater and a very thick glasses.
Although its description says he's a very shy person he tells you everything you can currently find in the Library, not to mention his dialogue is significantly larger than most village's NPCs.
Employee:[]
Employee | ||
A regular worker of local establishments.
Located at the movie theatre, he's the NPC who will offer you watching an advertisement in exchange of 150 Gold coins. The number of ads you can view increases with levels, following [5 + Level
] formula. At level 35, you would be able to gain 6000 Gold by watching 40 Ads. The gold you obtain isn't a function of the difficulty.
Due to relation ads-gold included in this feature, this addition is viewed as controversial in some branches of Pixel Dungeon community.
Sewers[]
Overview[]
Sewers are maintained as the first compulsory stage you play in Remixed Dungeon, keeping the same length (1st-5th level) and boss. However, its tileset varies a little from the original one, adding some broken pipes and changing the grass shape as well as other minor details made by TheEnigma314.
Apart from these aesthetical tweaks, you can also find barrels as a new interactable object in the dungeon, and very rarely, floating crystals can spawn in special rooms, but this is not stage-specific. Also, this is the first stage where you can encounter the first Remixed's special mobs, Elementals.
NPCs[]
Sad Ghost[]
Just like in Vanilla, the only ally you meet there is the Sad Ghost who in this case will give you the 2nd quest in the game. It spawns randomly between 2th and 4th floor, both included.
Sad Ghost | ||
The ghost is barely visible. It looks like a shapeless spot of faint light with a sorrowful face.
Both Dried Rose and Fetid rat Skull are equippable on the ring slots.
Dried Rose:[]
Dried Rose | ||
This rose dried up long time ago, but it has somehow kept all its petals.
And it hasn't lost it's charm. It looks so pretty, that you want to keep it forever. |
||
When equipped, the rose give you a permanent Charming debuff, which is pretty useless in the early game but worthy in the late game, as it greatly increases your Charmed debuff resistance.
It also balances the effect of the affection glyph towards you, in the way the enemy affected will suffer a longer period of Charm than you.
Obviously, giving the rose to the Ghost will make you lose the buff.
Giant Rat Skull:[]
Giant rat Skull | ||
It could be a nice hunting trophy, but it smells too bad to place it on a wall.
On the other hand, it demonstrates that its owner is capable of killing rats, even big and smelly ones. |
||
When equipped, the Skull will give you the "Ratter" debuff which will dispel out any rat menace, as It causes the "Frightened" debuff to every that see you, making them confused and unable to attack you.
The rest of Sewers' inhabitants will still want you to die, so this debuff isn't really useful. You can see the "Ratter" buff icon at the right side of this paragraph.
Also note that neither Suspicious Rats nor Pseudo-Rats are considered as Rats, so this buff will still be useless in Demons' Nest.
Enemies[]
This section won't give information about the already explained vanilla monsters which belong to this chapter but tweaks they present in this mod. However, for the sake of completeness, unmodified enemies will be also named even in the case they were completely unmodified.
Sewers natural Inhabitants:
- Marsupial Rat.
- Gnoll Scout.
- Sewer Crab (unmodified).
Marsupial Rat[]
Marsupial rats now have a chance of dropping their hide when killed, provided that the Plague Doctor's quest is active.
Unlike in vanilla, you can still get experience from rats up to Level 7.
Rat Hide[]
Rat Hide | ||
A small, filthy piece of flesh and fur. Can this actually be of use to someone?
Getting five of those hides and bring them to the Plague Doctor will complete the first quest, giving the character one Rat Armor.
Rats will be giving 1 EXP up to level 7.
Gnoll Scout[]
All parameters are maintained with the exception of MaxLvl
. Characters will still get experience from Gnoll Scout up to Level 12.
Sewer crab[]
The max level which you can obtain exp. from a crab is 9, surprisingly lower than gnoll scouts'.
Boss[]
5th floor[]
Just like in the original game, the player will face the first boss on depth 5, but the floor where the goo dwells in has two significant differences with vanilla:
• Once you get to the room where the goo is, it'll be spawned right away.
• Apart from the room with the iron door & the ladder and Rat King's treasury room, a new room with stairs down on its center will be generated. These stairs will lead you to the optional spiders' nest stage.
Boss stats[]
The goo in Remixed Dungeon behaves similarly to its vanilla version, but both its Health points and the experience you get from it are diminished. Summarizing, the key differences are:
• The goo now has 68 HP instead of 80.
• The goo now gives 9 EXP instead of 10.
• The goo is now resistant to Toxic Gas.
• When pumped up, the goo now deals 7-21 damage instead of 5-30.
• Usual damage has been tweaked too. A normal attack of the boss can deal 4-11 damage instead of 2-12.
Note: in Remixed Dungeon every boss would theoretically give you experience up to level 50.
Rat King[]
Players have the option of fighting against the Rat King in RD by touching him three times. This will trigger his majesty that will try to slay you for your bothering manners. Once you kill the king, his crown will be dropped as a wearable artifact. (Insert Rat King's crown infobox here)
The crown itself is not very useful; It grants the "Ratness" buff (insert buff image here)
which will make any sewer rat bend down to your will but will not have any effect on pseudo-rats or suspicious rats, just like the rat skull item.
