Exotic alchemy is the branch of alchemy involving crafting exotic variants of standard potions and scrolls. Such exotic consumables possess different powers and have different uses than their regular counterparts, or are a direct upgrade.

Turning potions or scrolls into these foreign items can be done by mixing any potion or scroll with some alchemical energy. Alternatively, using a scroll of transmutation or the Recycle spell allows Hero to switch the state of selected item back and forth at will.

Potions can be mixed with energy to create exotic potions. They have more powerful effects, but are often useful in different ways.

Exotic Potion
This round flask contains a grainy colorful liquid. It seems to be foreign to this land, who knows what it might do when drunk or thrown?

If a scroll of transmutation is used on a potion, it will transform into its respective exotic potion, and vice versa. However, exotic potions cannot be converted back into their regular variants via alchemy.

Mastery[]

Rather than granting raw strength, this potion will instead attune the muscles of the user to a particular item. This will make that item easier to use, as if the drinker had practised with it and built muscle memory.
The chosen weapon or armor will require 2 less strength to use. This potion can only be used once on each item.

The potion will reduce the strength needed to equip any weapon or armor by 2. However, no strength is gained. This makes the potion one of the more situational items with high risk and reward. If used correctly, it may let you equip stronger items sooner.

Shielding[]

Rather than heal, this potion will instead project a durable shield around the user's body, blocking a considerable amount of damage.

Gives the Hero 10 + 0.6 * max HP Shielding, which decreases by 1 every turn. The shielding is granted immediately, but the amount of shielding is equal to just about 75% of a Potion of Healing.

Magical Sight[]

After drinking this, your senses will be briefly heightened to incredible levels, allowing you to see through walls!

Applies 50 turns of Magical Sight. It allows the Hero to see through walls and other obstacles within 12 tiles.

Snap Freeze[]

The chemical contained in this potion will rapidly react with the air, instantly freezing and rooting all within its effect.

Freezes any character in 3x3 area for 10 turns (30 turns if the character is standing in water) and roots for 10 turns. Does not leave a chilling blob on affected tiles, unlike a Potion of frost.

Dragon's Breath[]

This flask contains an unusual compound which bursts into flame shortly after mixing with saliva. Quickly spitting the liquid will allow the user to spew flame from their mouth!

Allows the Hero to shoot a fire cone (akin to the Wand of Fireblast) with a 6 tile reach. Enemies hit with the blast will also be crippled for 10 turns.

Corrosive Gas[]

Uncorking or shattering this pressurized glass will cause its contents to explode into a deadly cloud of corrosive rust-colored gas. The gas is less concentrated however, and will not last for very long.

Creates 225 units of corrosive gas distributed between target and surrounding tiles. While it creates much less gas than its non-exotic counterpart (in terms of volume), damage dealt by corrosive gas is higher (2 + depth/5 initially and increases by 1 every turn) and inorganic enemies are not immune to the effect.

Stamina[]

Drinking this oddly sweet liquid will imbue you with a long-lasting boost of energy, allowing you to run at a quickened pace for an extended period of time.

Applies 100 turns of Stamina, increasing Hero's movement speed by 50%. The buff is much weaker than the one applied by potion of haste, but it also lasts significantly longer.

Shrouding Fog[]

When exposed to air, the liquid in this flask will produce a thick smoky fog which quickly spreads and blocks the vision of your enemies.

Creates 1080 units of smoke blob distributed between target and surrounding tiles which completely blocks vision for enemy creatures. The Hero and allies can still see through it normally. This cannot be used to get past piranhas, as they are completely immune to blobs.

Storm Clouds[]

Throwing this potion will create a cloud of concentrated vapor, which will condense and pour down onto the environment. Most terrain will be converted to water, and traps will be overwhelmed and break.

Creates 1620 units of storm clouds blob distributed between target and surrounding tiles. The cloud covers any floor tile it reaches with water and safely deactivates any active trap.

Earthen Armor[]

Rather than paralyze, this liquid has a hardening effect on the skin which will turn it into temporary natural armor.

Applies Barkskin to Hero, blocking up to 2 + level/3 damage. This amount decreases by 1 every 50 turns.

Cleansing[]

This powerful reagent will completely neutralize all harmful effects on the drinker when quaffed. It can be thrown at a target to cleanse them as well.

When drank or thrown, this potion removes most negative effects from the Hero/target and grants immunity to these effects for 5 turns. When drank by the Hero, it also fully restores satiety.

Divine Inspiration[]

The power of holy energy reduced to liquid form, this draught will imbue the drinker with divine power, granting them two bonus talent points in a tier of their choosing.
This potion can only be used once for each talent tier.

After drinking this potion, the Hero must choose a talent tier, which recieves 2 extra talent points. If every talent tier already received extra talent points this potion will do nothing.

Siren's Song[]

Reading this scroll emits an alluring melody which will enthrall a targeted enemy, permanently turning them into an ally! Other enemies who hear it will be temporarily charmed.
Particularly strong enemies can resist the enthrall effect, and will be charmed instead.

Permanently changes alignment of targeted enemy. Bosses, minibosses and Champions are immune to the effect. Upon being turned, target drops XP and loot as if it was killed. Applies 10 turns of Charm to all other enemies within Hero's field of view as well as the target is immune to being turned.

Anti-magic[]

The incantation on this scroll will surround you with a magical aura that temporarily blocks all magical effects, harmful or helpful.


Grants the Magic Immunity buff for 20 turns. This nullifies all damage from magical attacks, but also prevents the Hero from using any magic of his own (wands, scrolls, artifacts, rings, enchantments and glyphs).

This scroll lets the Hero unequip as many cursed items as he wants for the duration of the buff, but, unlike its non-exotic counterpart, doesn't actually remove the curses.

Challenge[]

When read aloud, this scroll will unleash a great roar that draws enemies to the user while simultaneously creating a small arena around them.
As long as the reader stays in this arena they will take 33% less damage from all sources (this is applied before other forms of damage reduction), and they will not lose satiety.
The size of the arena will scale with the size of the area the reader is in. It will be particularly small in some boss areas.

Draws all enemies to the Hero and creates 3x3 to 7x7 arena around the Hero (based on floor in which it's used and how many nearby tiles are inaccessible). The arena lasts for 100 turns. While within it, the Hero only takes 67% of regular damage and doesn't lose satiety.

Divination[]

This scroll will permanently identify four random item types. The types identified can be a potion's color, a scroll's rune, or a ring's gem. The items identified won't necessarily be ones you're carrying.

Reveals 4 random items, between ring types, potion colors, or scroll inscriptions. These items may not necessarily be in Hero's inventory, and can even not be encountered for the whole game. This scroll will do nothing if all potions, scrolls, and rings are identified.

Enchantment[]

This scroll will infuse a weapon or armor with powerful magical energy. The reader even has some degree of control over which magic is imbued.

After the weapon/armor to enchant is selected, it will let the player choose between 3 enchantments: 1 common, 1 uncommon, and 1 random. Canceling the scroll will consume it regardless.

This scroll is very useful alongside Magical Infusion spells, which remove the risk factor of losing the enchantment while upgrading (thus wasting the scroll of enchantment).

This scroll does not upgrade items.

Foresight[]

After reading this scroll, the detail of nearby terrain will be constantly fed to the reader's mind in crystal clarity. This effect lasts for a considerable amount of time, and will reveal all hidden doors or traps, making searching unnecessary.

Applies 400 turns of foresight to the Hero. The buff reveals any tile within 8 tiles.

Mystical Energy[]

The raw magical power bound up in this parchment will, when released, charge a user's equipped artifacts over time.

Grants 30 turns of Artifact Recharging buff to the Hero.

This is enough to restore:

Chalice of Blood has no charges, but the artifact recharging buff will instead restore (30 + 6 x depth) health to the Hero if he has it equipped. This effect can be extremely powerful with the right artifacts equipped.

Passage[]

The spell on this parchment instantly transports the reader to the nearest region entrance above them. Very handy for quickly getting to a shop.

Teleports the Hero to the first floor of the chapter, at the stairs to the upper floor, usually next to a shop. This effect does not work during boss fights or Ascension.

Dread[]

When read, this scroll will emit a flash of red light that will instill incredible terror in all enemies in your field of view. So great is this effect that they will rapidly try to flee from the entire dungeon, never to be seen again!
Just like with terror, this effect can expire with time, or if the enemy is attacked.
Strong-willed enemies, such as bosses, will be inflicted with regular terror instead.

Applies 20 turns of dread to all enemies within the Hero's field of view. This debuff is similar to terror, except affected enemies will despawn if they leave the Hero's FoV dropping no loot and only 50% XP. Bosses and minibosses will not be inflicted with Dread, but regular terror instead.

Metamorphosis[]

This scroll contains powerful transmutation magic, which will apply to the caster instead of to an item. The magic of this scroll will let you select one talent, and replace it with one of four talents of the same tier from different hero classes!
This effect can only apply to class talents, not talents gained from subclasses or armor abilities. Talents that you cannot use will not be given as options.

When used, you may pick a talent of your choosing that is eligible to be changed, T4 talents and T3 subclass specific talents can't be picked. Once selected, the screen will display 4 random talents from the same tier, from the different Heroes. Whichever of the three you select will replace the talent you chose earlier, and will also have the same amount of talent points already spent on it.

The following talents have slightly different effect when obtained by a different Hero:

  • Iron Will, Restored Willpower, Backup Barrier, Energized Upgrade, Protective Shadow, Light Cloak, Mystical Upgrade, Seer Shot, Wide Search, Runic Transference, Wand Preservation, Agressive Barrier, Focused Meal, Weapon Recharging, Lethal Haste, Precise Assault

Prismatic Image[]

The incantation on this scroll will create a colorful illusory twin of the reader. This prismatic image acts as a weaker clone of the reader, with similar defence but lower hp and damage.

The prismatic image will show itself when enemies are present, and will attempt to defend the reader.

If a prismatic image already exists, using this scroll will fully heal it.

Summons a prismatic guard to protect the Hero. Unlike mirror images, prismatic image will not wander off to fight other foes, and will instead only appear when an enemy is in sight. For all other times, the guard will be preserved in the form of a status effect.

You are being guarded by a prismatic image which is currently inactive. When enemies are present the prismatic image will spring to action and protect you!

While inactive, the prismatic image will steadily recover from any damage it has taken.

Current HP: X/X

The prismatic guard will then regenerate 1 HP per 10 turns.

If prismatic guard loses all of its HP, it will stop taking actions, but not disappear immediately; for the next few turns, it is still possible to heal it with another scroll of prismatic image, healing darts, regrowth bombs etc.

Psionic Blast[]

This scroll contains incredible destructive energy that can be channeled to destroy the minds of all visible creatures.

There is significant feedback however, and the reader will also be damaged, blinded, and weakened. The more targets the scroll hits, the less self-damage will be taken.

All characters within Hero's field of view will take damage equal to their current health. This includes the Hero, but the damage they take is reduced by a factor depending on number of creatures affected (the more creatures it hits, the less damage the Hero takes). As all creatures are affected by the scroll, using a Stone of Flock before reading it is a good way to almost nullify self damage.

The Hero will be also blinded for 10 turns and weakened for 100 turns like after reading a Scroll of Retribution.
