The Swarm of flies is a standard enemy that can be found in Sewers and Prison.

Swarm of flies
The deadly swarm of flies buzzes angrily. Every non-magical attack will split it into two smaller but equally dangerous swarms.

Behavior

If a swarm is successfully hit with a regular weapon, if it then has at least 2 HP left, and if there is at least one free tile out of the 4 neighboring tiles, then it will split in half, each half evenly sharing the remaining HP (in case of odd HP, the original swarm will keep the extra indivisible HP). This could be very dangerous as the number of swarms could grow fast (but each swarm will have low HP). The swarms will try and surround the Hero, hitting him/her from each side.

Special notes

They are flying enemies, so they can move over chasms and traps, without triggering them.

Drop detail

The generation parameter used in drop probability is calculated this way:

  • The newly spawned swarm has generation 1,
  • A swarm created by successfully hitting a swarm of generation N will have generation N+1.

Tips

Farming

  • Depth 7 is the best depth to farm Potions of Healing from a Swarm of flies.
    • If a swarm of flies is encountered, lure it into corridors. Equip your best armor and unequip your weapon. Hit and spawn swarms of flies, back off, and repeat, while killing off flies that no longer can spawn new ones. This ensures least amount of damage received and increase the chance of getting more potions. Do not use debuffs, magic or other sources of damage that would not cause the swarm to split.
    • Always keep in mind the conditions for swarm of flies to split.
    • Save at least one potion of healing to farm flies without problem.

Note: Enemies only drop something if the Hero's level is up to their maxLevel+2 Loot Level Cap. Consequently, Potions of Healing can only be farmed from Swarm of flies until level 12 (inclusive).
