    Recommended Items

    Rings

    The following rings are recommended for this Boss Fight:

    Armor

    By Depth 25, your armor should at least be absorbing up to 40 Damage (or above 36 Dmg Absorption), so you can survive Yog-Dzewa, since the Rotting Fist can deal a max damage of 36 Dmg per strike.

    It is at this point that it is highly recommended for your armor to be Plate Armor.

    Glyphs

    The following glyphs are recommended for this Boss Fight:

    Melee Weapons

    By Depth 25, your weapon should be dealing at least an average of 30-35 Damage (or as close as you can get to 36), or higher, so you can get past Yog-Dzewa.  Essentially, 1/10th of Yog-Dzewa's total HP.  A 30-35 damage-dealing weapon will also allow your Hero/ine to 1-hit kill the Larvae (as they have 25 HP).

    It is at this point that it is highly recommended for your melee weapon to be Tier-5.

    • +7/+6/+5 War hammer War Hammer [+7 = 36 Avg Dmg; +5 = 30 Avg Dmg]
    • +6/+5 Glaive Glaive (Weightstone - Balanced for: Speed)


    For those who are willing to invest all of their Upgrade scrolls into either of these two melee weapons, here are the levels they need to be, in order to deal 30-35 damage (average).

    •  +15/+14/+13/+12 Knuckleduster Knuckleduster [+15 = 36 Avg Dmg; +12 = 30 Avg Dmg]
    •  +17/+16/+15/+14 Spear Spear (Weightstone - Balanced for: Speed) [+17 = 35 Avg Dmg; +14 = 31 Avg Dmg]

    Missile Weapons

    The following missile weapons are recommended for this Boss Fight:

    WARNING:  It is HIGHLY not recommended to use Missile Weapons (or inflict Physical Damage) on the eyeball, when playing with a Ranged approach.
    Inflicting physical damage to the eyeball causes it to spawn larvae; therefore, it is highly recommended to only use Magic Damage on the eyeball (when ranged-attacking).
    Only use the below missile weapons against the Fists & the larvae.

    (NOTE:  Y-D's eyeball is also susceptible to Bleeding, but since the debuff's only source is the Tomahawk [which inflicts Physical Damage {which spawns Larvae} ], it is not recommended, particularly with Ranged-centric combat.  Inflict at your own risk.  Additionally, the eyeball is also susceptible to other debuffs, but since the eyeball remains stationary & doesn't attack, the other debuffs aren't needed.)

    Combat Methods

    If you're confident that you can defeat Yog-Dzewa in your initial attempt (especially with your entire supply of utility items), go ahead & take your whole stack of utility items; & only leave your non-essential items at Depth 24.  This way, you don't lose them after you get revived by your Ankh Ankh (assuming you opted to buy one) & the depth gets reset.

    If you're not confident you'll survive the initial fight against Yog-Dzewa, make sure you leave all items that are non-essential to the fight, at Depth 24.  And leaving about 35-40% of your essential utility items in a separate stack, at Depth 24, would also be wise, if that is the case.  That way, you have a back-up supply to re-engage Yog-Dzewa with after getting revived by your Ankh Ankh (again, assuming you opted to buy one).

    WARNING:
    Once you step off the stairs at D-25, THE STAIRS (& walls) WILL DISAPPEAR to reveal the boss room & you'll be UNABLE TO LEAVE.
    Be sure you're absolutely ready to face Y-D before descending to D-25!
    The Fists are the true boss here (particularly the Burning Fist) in terms of threat-level, not the Eyeball.
    Rotting Fist's attacks hurt the most & inflict Caustic Ooze (just like Goo), but Burning Fist's ranged attacks fire more frequently, which hurt more in the long run.
    Be also mindful not to let more than 7 Larvae spawn at a time, as their combined attack (20 Dmg per larva = 140 Dmg for 7 larvae) could 100%-0 your health bar, without the necessary damage mitigation items (Herbal armor Herbal Armor from Earthroot Seed of Earthroot & +6 Plate Armor, or +6 Ring of Evasion).

    Melee - Eyeball First

    The Glyph of Bounce/Entanglement is recommended for this boss fight.

    Utility Items Needed:

    • Wand of Blink
    • Wand of Slowness

    This is perhaps the most common & straightforward approach of the four, and perhaps the safest of them as well.  (Though, it is also the longest approach; the fists divide the damage the Hero/ine inflicts on the eyeball - 2 Fists present divide it by 4, 1 Fist present divides it by 2, no Fists = no damage division.)
    It's also one of the only two approaches that don't have any variance/nuance in tactics, since your main focus is slaying Y-D's eyeball, then cleaning up any remaining larvae that spawned from striking the eyeball, rather than taking on the fists.

    Along with your melee weapon of choice, you'll also need most of the above listed Utility items to successfully defeat Yog-Dzewa.  You don't need all of them to succeed, but having each item will certainly increase your chances of success with this method.

    Once you're ready, descend to Depth 25.

    Before stepping off the stairs, make sure you review the following sequence in your mind & get it correct the first time; otherwise, you'll have wasted an item & risk getting caught by the fists, in an attempt to reach the eyeball unscathed.

    Illuminated Mind vision

    If you're not already Illuminated, make sure you light a Torch Torch before stepping off the stairs (It'll be especially useful in keeping track of the fists & larvae's position).  And since Mind Vision lasts 20 turns, you might want to drink the potion before stepping off as well.  You don't want to immediately step off the stairs, only to discover that the Burning Fist is right there & attacking you just outside of your Field-of-View, but you're unable to tell from which direction it's firing from, before you even have the chance to drink your Mind Vision potion (which takes up turns).  If that's the case, hopefully, you also have a Wand of Blink/Wand of Slowness/Javelins, so you can create some distance; and lure them further away from the eyeball.  It would also be in your best interest to have 1-2 P-Gas potions, to paralyze the fists once you've lured them away from the eyeball. If you don't have any, alternatively, you can throw a Frost potion/Icecap seed Icecap seed/Dreamweed seed Dreamweed seed at the Burning Fist, and fire the Wand of Regrowth at the Rotting Fist.

    If they're next to the eyeball as soon as you step off the stairs (which is more often the case nowadays, since several updates back) & they haven't seen you yet, you might want to hold off on drinking an Invisibility potion until you've lured them enough away (you only have 15 turns to be Invisible).  This is when a Mirror Image scroll may come in handy, to give the fists something to chase & move away from the eyeball.

    Invisible

    Once you've lured them away & Paralyzed paralyzed them with a P-Gas potion, gain some ground to get around them (standing between them & the eyeball), then drink your Invisibility potion, so they don't 'see' you heading towards the eyeball & follow you later, after the Paralyzed Paralyzed debuff ends.  Again, alternatively to Paralyzed, a Wand of Blink/Wand of Slowness/Wand of Regrowth/Javelin Javelins/Frost potion/Icecap seed Icecap seed/Dreamweed seed Dreamweed seed can suffice, to accomplish the same task of immobilizing/delaying the fists, before drinking an Invisibility potion.

    Once you've reached the eyeball, choose a cell beside it that has the least amount of open cells for the larvae to occupy & attack you. Then throw your Earthroot Earthroot seed onto that cell & step on it.
    Before attacking the eyeball, if you have a Wand of Flock, this would be the best time to zap the wall (or the eyeball) with it, so that the Sheep gif sheep surround you & provide a harmless "meatshield", rather than the larvae, which will attack & damage you.
    If you have a Glyph bounce plate Bounce-inscribed Plate Armor, this is where it would be of most use to you, as it will push away the first 'layer' of spawned larvae, giving space for newly spawned larvae (or sheep) to give you a 2-cell thick barrier/meatshield/protection from the fists, while you strike the eyeball.
    And before you attack, if you have one, fire your Poison wand at the eyeball (or proceed with your Venomous-enchanted melee weapon), so it receives additional Damage-Over-Time from Poisoned Poisoned, while you're striking it, expediting the fight.
    Strike the eyeball 'til it's dead..err..*squashed*.  (And repeat the rotation if it ends before defeating Y-D)

    Squashing the eyeball eliminates the fists as well, so you'll only have to worry about the larvae.
    Make sure you're back to full health and/or stepping on another EarthrootPlant Earthroot plant, before dealing the final blow on the eyeball, so the larvae don't cheaply end you when you're at low-health.
    There have been many deaths due to underestimating the larvae's combined attack speed.  (They each deal a max dmg of 20; 7 larvae = 140 Dmg; that's your entire health bar.)

    If you're at low-health & don't have another EarthrootPlant Earthroot plant to step on (& need to buy yourself extra turns), if you have one of either, you can opt to read a Lullaby scroll + drink another Invisibility potion, then grab the key & head for the exit.
    You can also opt to disperse them with a Terror Terror scroll, before grabbing the Boss Key & heading for the exit.
    Or, if you're feeling confident, you can try your luck to wipe them all out in one fell swoop with a Psionic Blast scroll (at the risk of not wiping them all out, being blinded, & getting ganged-up on). You could also go the 'over-kill' route & use a Wipeoutscroll Wipe Out scroll.

    CONGRATULATIONS, Adventurer!
    You've successfully survived the dungeon gauntlet & defeated Yog-Dzewa!  (Well, his eyeball, his two left fists, & his maggots, anyway.. Heh)
    Descend to D-26, and claim your reward & purpose for entering the dungeon in the first place - the Amulet of yendor Amulet of Yendor - and join other successful Adventurers in the Hall of Fame!

    The question now is..
    Will you end the game upon obtaining the Amulet, or will you accept the challenge of enduring the gauntlet once more, to exit the dungeon & ascend to the Surface, joining your Happy end Ascended brethren??

    Melee - Fists First

    Utility Items Needed:

    • Potions of Frost  (x6)
    • +2 Wand of Flock (at least 4 Sheep)
    • Wand of Slowness
    • Scrolls of Recharging
    • Scroll of Terror
    • Scroll of Lullaby
    • Frozen Carpaccio's (at least 2)


    This happens to be straightforward as well, but it's also the most difficult/dangerous of the four.

    Along with your melee weapon of choice, you'll also need most of the above listed Utility items to successfully defeat Yog-Dzewa.  You don't need all of them to succeed, but having each item will certainly increase your chances of success with this method.

    Once you're ready, descend to Depth 25.

    Illuminated Mind vision

    Before stepping off the stairs at D-25 & triggering the start of the fight, make sure you light a Torch Torch, if you aren't already Illuminated.
    Drink a Mind Vision potion before stepping off the stairs as well, in order to immediately find Y-D.
    And if you have a spare, read a Magic Mapping scroll, so that you know the location of all water tiles - knowing where they are is crucial to this particular approach.

    Find the fists, if they haven't already detected you upon stepping off the stairs, then, if you can help it, try to separate them from each other, prioritizing in isolating the Rotting Fist first.  (Inflict either Paralyzed Paralyzed, Vertigo Vertigo, or whichever debuff is available to you, on the Burning Fist, to keep it away, while you attack the R-Fist.)
    Lure the R-Fist to a corner with (a) Water halls water tile(s), where the B-Fist can't see you & won't immediately follow, then throw an Earthroot Earthroot seed on the Water halls water tile to hunker down for the fight.
    [NOTE:  Like Goo, be sure to keep the Rotting Fist out of water, while your Hero/ine stands in water during the fight, so the R-Fist doesn't heal & the water washes the Caustic ooze Caustic Ooze off of your Hero/ine.]
    Next, inflict your DoT arsenal (Bleeding Bleeding, Burning Burning, Golden bee Golden Bees, & Mirror Images) on the R-Fist, then strike away 'til the DoT's end; and repeat the rotation until the R-Fist is eliminated.

    Afterwards, locate the Burning Fist (if it hasn't already tracked you during the fight with the R-Fist) & do the same thing.
    1.)  Lure the B-Fist to the corner with (a) Water halls water tile(s).
    2.)  Throw another Earthroot Earthroot seed on the water tile.
    3.)  Inflict your DoT arsenal (with Poisoned Poisoned, in place of Burning).
    4.)  Strike away 'til the DoT's end.
    5.)  And then repeat the rotation 'til the B-Fist is eliminated.

    Once both fists are eliminated, approach the eyeball & finish it off.
    1.)  Throw an Earthroot Earthroot seed beside the eyeball & step on it.
    2.)  Inflict Poisoned Poisoned.
    3.)  If you have a Wand of Flock, surround yourself with Sheep gif sheep.
    4.)  Then strike away 'til the sheep disappear/Poisoned debuff ends.
    5.)  Repeat the rotation 'til you've squashed the eyeball.
    6.)  Then clean up the remaining Larvae.

    Make sure you're back to full health and/or stepping on another EarthrootPlant Earthroot plant, before dealing the final blow on the eyeball, so the larvae don't cheaply end you when you're at low-health.
    There have been many deaths due to underestimating the larvae's combined attack speed.  (They each deal a max dmg of 207 larvae = 140 Dmg; that's your entire health bar.)

    →  If you're at low-health & don't have another Earthroot Earthroot seed to step on (& need to buy yourself extra turns), if you have one, you can opt to read a Lullaby scroll + drink another Invisibility potion, then grab the key & head for the exit.
    →  You can also opt to disperse them with a Terror Terror scroll, before grabbing the Boss Key & heading for the exit.
    →  Or, if you're feeling confident, you can try your luck to wipe them all out in one fell swoop with a Psionic Blast scroll (at the risk of not wiping them all out, being blinded, & getting ganged-up on). You could also go the 'over-kill' route & use a Wipeoutscroll Wipe Out scroll.

    Ranged - Eyeball First

    [WARNING:  This approach can only be accomplished with Fading wands Wand-centric combat.  It is virtually impossible to accomplish with Missile Weapons (Boomerang-centric combat).  The reason being is that, inflicting Physical Damage on the eyeball causes it to spawn its larvae.  Attacking it with a (relatively) weak weapon like the Boomerang, before eliminating the fists, will only serve to spawn a myriad of larvae that will overwhelm the Hero/ine in waves, until s/he's dead.  The only way to damage the eyeball without it spawning larvae is with Magic Damage, hence wands.]

    The Glyph of Entanglement/Viscosity is recommended for this boss fight.

    [Under normal circumstances, Displacement is recommended over Entanglement/Viscosity, especially for non-Boss Depths, but since teleportation, and therefore Displacement, doesn't work at Boss Depths, this is the only other alternative for players taking the Ranged route {if your armor isn't already inscribed with Displacement in the first place}.  Basically, if you get Displacement, stick with it. If you don't & you get Entanglement, settle with it. If you get neither & you get Viscosity, settle with that.]

    Utility Items Needed:

    This is perhaps the least common approach of the four, but as straightforward as the Melee approach, and as potentially dangerous as the Melee-Fists 1st approach, if proceeding without the necessary (exact) equipment. It's also the other of the two approaches that don't have any variance/nuance in tactics, since your main focus is slaying Y-D's eyeball, and keeping the fists at bay/immobilized. If done properly/successfully, all you'll have to attack is the eyeball, and no health will be lost - you will win the fight unscathed.  Simple, right?

    Along with your Battle Wand of choice, you'll also need a decent supply of items that inflict Paralyzed Paralyzed (preferably P-Gas potions, as they last the longest), and a large supply of Recharging scrolls for your battle wand (if you don't have an upgraded Ring of Power).  Alternatively to Paralyzed, you can also amass Dreamweed seed Dreamweed seeds to inflict Vertigo Vertigo on the Burning Fist, and step on an Earthroot Earthroot seed against the Rotting Fist (if you don't have an Glyph affection plate Affection-inscribed Plate Armor, to inflict Charmed Charmed on the R-Fist).

    Once you're ready, descend to Depth 25.

    Illuminated Mind vision Invisible

    Before stepping off the stairs, drink a Mind Vision potion to immediately track the location of the Eyeball & Fists.
    If the fists haven't detected you upon stepping off the stairs, make the approach & get as close as you can, before they detect you; then (if needed) drink an Invisibility potion to position yourself at an ideal spot.
    If the fists have detected you, immediately drink an Invisibility potion to position yourself at an ideal spot (likely a 'triangle' formation of you, the fists, & the eyeball).
    If the fists aren't near the eyeball, you'll need to draw them a little closer to you & the eyeball; and you need to position yourself in-between the eyeball & the fists (or form a triangle), so you can alternate between debuffing the fists & damaging the eyeball, when necessary.
    If the fists are near the eyeball (as they likely will be), then they'll be easier to manage while zapping the eyeball.

    Crowd Control:

    • Paralyzed If you happen to have a decent supply of P-Gas potions, then you can lock both fists down, while you attack with your Battle Wand.  Just keep throwing another P-Gas potion whenever the gas dissipates before you cook the eyeball.  This is the easiest of the two varying steps to debuffing the fists.
    • Vertigo Charmed Herbal armor Alternatively, if you don't have P-Gas potions, but you have a big supply of Dreamweed seed Dreamweed seeds, a few Earthroot Earthroot seeds, & an Glyph affection plate Affection-inscribed Plate Armor, the fists can still be managed, albeit you'll be receiving damage from the Rotting Fist whenever Charmed wears off. Make sure you're standing on Water halls water, if you have to take this debuff path, so the Caustic ooze Caustic Ooze can get washed off.  (Vertigo against B-Fist, and Charmed+Herbal Armor against R-Fist)

    Battle Wand:

    • Burning Poisoned  If your Battle Wand is the Wand of Firebolt, make sure you alternate with a Wand of Poison, since the eyeball is immune to the Burning debuff, but not Poisoned.  This way, Poisoned can continue inflicting DoT, while the Wand of Firebolt acts as the main on-hit damage source.
    • Sheep gif  If your Battle Wand is the Wand of Disintegration, you'll want a Wand of Flock to amplify its damage output on the eyeball.  (Feel free to fire a Wand of Poison between replenishing the sheep, for additional DoT.)
    • Shock blue Poisoned  If your Battle Wand is the Wand of Lightning, you'll need a Wand of Poison (for DoT) & a Wand of Reach (to reposition the eyeball onto water, if it isn't already on water).  You'll also need a big supply of Recharging scrolls (if you don't have an upgraded Ring of Power), as the fight will take longer with Lightning damage.


    Repeat the rotation until Y-D's defeated.

    CONGRATULATIONS, Adventurer!
    You've successfully survived the dungeon gauntlet & defeated Yog-Dzewa! (Well, his eyeball & his two left fists, anyway.. Heh)
    Descend to D-26, and claim your reward & purpose for entering the dungeon in the first place - the Amulet of yendor Amulet of Yendor - and join other successful Adventurers in the Hall of Fame!

    The question now is..
    Will you end the game upon obtaining the Amulet, or will you accept the challenge of enduring the gauntlet once more, to exit the dungeon & ascend to the Surface, joining your Happy end Ascended brethren??

    Ranged - Fists First

    NOTE: Inflicting Physical Damage on the eyeball will cause it to spawn Y-D's Larvae, whereas inflicting Magic Damage will not.  Be extra mindful of this when taking a Ranged approach.

    The Glyph of Affection/Viscosity is recommended for this boss fight.

    Utility Items Needed:

    • Torch
    • Ring of Power (upgraded)
    • Ring of Haste
    • Ring of Accuracy
    • Seeds of Dreamweed  (x3)
    • Seeds of Icecap  (x6)
    • Potions of Invisibility  (~x2)
    • Potions of Mind Vision  (x2)
    • Potions of Frost  (x6)
    • Potions of Paralytic Gas
    • Wand of Avalanche
    • Wand of Blink
    • Wand of Slowness
    • Curaré Darts  (x10-20)
    • Javelins  (at least 6)
    • Bombs  (x15-30)
    • Scrolls of Recharging
    • Frozen Carpaccio's (at least 2)


    Depending on the tactic used, this is perhaps an easier approach than this wiki made it out to be, for one simple reason - eliminating the Fists first removes the damage division/damage reduction "barrier" from the eyeball, making attacking the eyeball a quicker task than if the eyeball were to be attacked first.
    And since the fists are susceptible to the debuffs listed in this guide, it's all a matter of debuff management & attack sequence.
    This approach may seem daunting & more dangerous at first glance, but it's deceptively easy, provided that you remain attentive throughout the fight.  (Complex, but Easy)

    Along with your ranged weapon of choice, you'll also need the above listed Utility items to successfully defeat Yog-Dzewa. (Specifically, either P-Gas potions, or a Wand of Blink & an upgraded Ring of Power, or a supply of Recharging scrolls)
    You don't need all of them to succeed, but having each item will certainly increase your chances of success with this method.
    You'll also need your DoT arsenal (i.e. Tomahawks, Poisoned sources, Burning sources, & Allied-Summon NPC's) to expedite this fight.

    Once you're ready, descend to Depth 25.

    Illuminated Mind vision Invisible

    Before stepping off the stairs at D-25, drink a Mind Vision potion to immediately locate the Eyeball & Fists (& light a Torch Torch if you aren't already Illuminated).
    It's not required, but if you have a spare Magic Mapping scroll, read it, so you know where all the Water halls water tiles are, and where the best position would be, to plant an Earthroot Earthroot seed to step on for the duration of the fight.
    Depending on the method you choose below, you may not need to step on an Earthroot, as you'll constantly need to be moving around.

    Then, once you're ready to engage, choose any of the following approaches that are available to you (if most/all are available, weave them all together):

    Crowd Control - Crippled or Slowed Ranged

    Crippled or Slowed & Poisoned + Burning + Bleeding + Golden bee + Mirror Images + T-Gas potions + Wand of Blink

    Duration:

    • Javelin - 10 Turns
    • Wand of Slowness - Level + 3.3 Turns
    • Chilling-enchanted weapon - 1 to Level + 1.5 Turns
    • Sorrowmoss plant - 5+depth Turns (20 max)
    • Wand of Poison - 1+2×1.5Level Turns
    • Venomous-enchanted weapon - Level+1 Turns
    • Potion of Liquid Flame/Wand of Firebolt/Blazing enchantment/Incendiary Dart/Seed of Firebloom - 8 Turns
    • Tomahawk - Damage1/3 to Damage Turns


    This will be the most difficult & item-intensive method of the five, as you're only slowing them down, rather than immobilizing them, or rendering them harmless.
    It'll also hurt the most. But it's still doable.
    You'll need an upgraded Ring of Power, or plenty of Recharging scrolls (or both!); either a Viscosity, or Entanglement, inscribed Plate Armor; and, if you're using an upgraded Boomerang, hopefully either a Vampiric, or Lucky, enchantment.

    1.)  Once you've sighted the fists upon proximity, or have a direct line-of-sight (via Mind vision Mind Vision), immediately inflict the Crippled/Slowed debuff(s),
    2.)  then immediately follow-up with your DoT arsenal - inflicting Bleeding Bleeding on both fists first, then Poisoned Poisoned on B-Fist, & then Burning Burning on R-Fist.  Immediately follow-up with Golden bee Golden Bees & Mirror Images, or a T-Gas potion & Mirror Images. (Golden Bees can get hurt in T-Gas, so try not to use them together.)
    3.)  Then, fire with your main ranged weapon.
    4.)  If you threw a T-Gas potion (& you have a Wand of Blink), be sure to blink around just outside the T-Gas' range, so the gas keeps damaging the fists while you range-attack them.

    In this instance, it may be best to prioritize eliminating the B-Fist before the R-Fist, as its ranged-attacks HURT, and the R-Fist can't damage you until it's in melee range.
    The trade-off here is that you'll constantly be blinking back & forth to avoid the R-Fist (& will run out of charges), while you whittle down the B-Fist's health.
    If you don't have a Wand of Blink, you may need to prioritize the R-Fist instead.

    Repeat the rotation until both fists are eliminated.
    Once the fists are eliminated, fire your Wand of Poison on the eyeball (if you have one), then follow up with any other Battle Wands you may have.

    If you've been using a Boomerang Boomerang up to this point, this is where you may need to transition to the melee strategy & plant an Earthroot Earthroot seed next to the eyeball, to strike it until it's defeated.  (Unless you have a Lucky-enchanted Boomerang, perhaps?)
    [As previously stated (in the other Ranged method above), it is virtually impossible to defeat the eyeball with Missile Weapons (Boomerang-centric combat), because inflicting Physical Damage on the eyeball causes it to spawn its larvae.  Attacking it with a (relatively) weak weapon like the Boomerang, will only serve to spawn a myriad of larvae, that will overwhelm the Hero/ine in waves, until s/he's dead.  The only way to damage the eyeball without it spawning larvae is with Magic Damage (i.e. Battle Wands).]

    Repeat the rotation until the eyeball/Yog-Dzewa's defeated.

    This Crowd Control tactic can also be combined with other tactics below (namely Rooted & Charmed), to make it easier to immobilize them, render them harmless, & create more distance between you & them, for more turns to damage them.


    Crowd Control - Frozen and Rooted

    Frozen + Rooted & Poisoned + Burning + Bleeding + Golden bee + Mirror Images + T-Gas potions + Wand of Blink

    Duration:

    • Seed of Icecap & Potion of Frost - 5-7.5 Turns
    • Wand of Regrowth - Turns, Equal to Wand Level/Number of affected tiles (Level + 2 * 20??)
    • Sorrowmoss plant - 5+depth Turns (20 max)
    • Wand of Poison - 1+2×1.5Level Turns
    • Venomous-enchanted weapon - Level+1 Turns
    • Potion of Liquid Flame/Wand of Firebolt/Blazing enchantment/Incendiary Dart/Seed of Firebloom - 8 Turns
    • Tomahawk - Damage1/3 to Damage Turns


    This is the second most difficult & item-intensive (if not just tediously long) method of the five, next to Crippled/Slowed, since these debuffs have an extremely short duration, that needs to be constantly re-inflicted (but still buys some turns to create distance, especially with a Wand of Blink).
    Thankfully, it's also highly unlikely that the item sources of these debuffs will be your only Crowd Control sources.
    However, it's still possible to accomplish, granted you follow up with your DoT arsenal.
    You'll also need plenty of Frost potions & plenty of Recharging scrolls, or an upgraded Ring of Power (or both!).

    1.)  Once you've sighted the fists upon proximity, or have a direct line-of-sight (via Mind Vision), immediately inflict the Rooted debuff on the Rotting Fist.
    2.)  Then immediately follow-up with your DoT arsenal - inflicting Bleeding Bleeding on both fists first, then Poisoned Poisoned on B-Fist, then Burning Burning on R-Fist.
    3.)  Immediately inflict the Frozen debuff on the Burning Fist.
    4.)  Immediately follow-up with Golden bee Golden Bees & Mirror Images, or a T-Gas potion & Mirror Images. (Golden Bees can get hurt in T-Gas, so try not to use them together.)
    5.)  Then, fire with your main ranged weapon. (If it's a Wand of Firebolt, you're better off eliminating the R-Fist first; and you may need to rely on your Allied Summon NPC's to be your alternate source of damage against the B-Fist.)
    6.)  If you threw a T-Gas potion (& you have a Wand of Blink), be sure to blink around just outside the T-Gas' range whenever the fists are debuffed, to maintain distance, so the gas keeps damaging the fists whenever they're not debuffed & they're moving towards you.

    Repeat the rotation until both Fists are eliminated.
    Once the fists are eliminated, fire your Wand of Poison on the eyeball (if you have one), then follow up with any other Battle Wands you may have.

    If you've been using a Boomerang up to this point, this is where you may need to transition to the melee strategy & plant an Earthroot Earthroot seed next to the eyeball, to strike it until it's defeated.  (Unless you have a Lucky-enchanted Boomerang, perhaps?)

    Duration:

    • Dreamweed plant - 5-10 Turns
    • Affection-inscribed armor - 2-5 Turns (Enemy); 1-5 Turns (Hero/ine), but never more than the enemy
    • Sorrowmoss plant - 5+depth Turns (20 max)
    • Wand of Poison - 1+2×1.5Level Turns
    • Venomous-enchanted weapon - Level+1 Turns
    • Potion of Liquid Flame/Wand of Firebolt/Blazing enchantment/Incendiary Dart/Seed of Firebloom - 8 Turns
    • Tomahawk - Damage1/3 to Damage Turns


    This is likely the least considered, most uncommon, & most unconventional method of the five.
    And although it's contingent on getting an Glyph affection plate Affection-inscribed Plate Armor, it's still very much possible & not difficult to execute.

    1.)  Once you've sighted the fists upon proximity, or have a direct line-of-sight (via Mind Vision), immediately throw a Dreamweed seed in front of the Burning Fist.
    2.)  Then immediately follow-up with your DoT arsenal - inflicting Bleeding Bleeding first on both fists, then Poisoned Poisoned on B-Fist, then Burning Burning on R-Fist.
    3.)  Immediately follow-up with Golden bee Golden Bees & Mirror Images, to continuously damage the R-Fist as it approaches you.
    4.)  Then, attack both fists with your main ranged weapon.  (If it's a Wand of Firebolt, you're better off eliminating the R-Fist first; and you may need to rely on other sources of damage against the B-Fist.)
    5.)  Once the R-Fist approaches you & it gets Charmed Charmed, blink away (if you have a Wand of Blink), then continue attacking the fists with your DoT arsenal & your main ranged weapon.

    Repeat the rotation until both Fists are eliminated.
    Once the fists are eliminated, fire your Wand of Poison on the eyeball (if you have one), then follow up with any other Battle Wands you may have.

    If you've been using a Boomerang up to this point, this is where you may need to transition to the melee strategy & plant an Earthroot Earthroot seed next to the eyeball, to strike it until it's defeated.  (Unless you have a Lucky-enchanted Boomerang, perhaps?)

    • Stunning-enchanted weapon - 1 to Level + 1.5 Turns
    • Curaré Dart - 3 Turns
    • Bomb - 2 Turns
    • Sorrowmoss plant - 5+depth Turns (20 max)
    • Wand of Poison - 1+2×1.5Level Turns
    • Venomous-enchanted weapon - Level+1 Turns
    • Potion of Liquid Flame/Wand of Firebolt/Blazing enchantment/Incendiary Dart/Seed of Firebloom - 8 Turns
    • Tomahawk - Damage1/3 to Damage Turns


    This is one of the easiest & simplest methods of the five (particularly if you're using the Boomerang; only partially, if you're using the Wand of Firebolt).

    1.)  Once you've sighted the fists upon proximity, or have a direct line-of-sight (via Mind Vision), immediately throw the P-Gas potion at them.
    2.)  Then immediately follow-up with your DoT arsenal - inflicting Bleeding Bleeding first on both fists, then Poisoned Poisoned on B-Fist, then Burning Burning on R-Fist.
    3.)  Then, attack both fists with your main ranged weapon.  (If it's a Wand of Firebolt, you're better off eliminating the R-Fist first; and you may need to rely on other sources of damage against the B-Fist.)

    Repeat the rotation until both Fists are eliminated.

    • Tomahawk - Damage1/3 to Damage Turns


    [NOTE: This only works with Missile Weapons, like the Huntress' Boomerang.  Firing wands will prematurely end your Hero/ine's invisibility; only use them between rotations.]

    This is also one of the easiest & simplest methods of the five.

    1.)  Once you have a direct line-of-sight (via Mind Vision), approach them, then drink an Invisibility potion right before they're in range of detecting you.
    2.) Then immediately follow-up with your DoT arsenal - inflicting Bleeding Bleeding first on both fists, then Poisoned Poisoned on B-Fist, then Burning Burning on R-Fist, then immediately follow-up with either Golden bee Golden Bees, or a T-Gas potion (but never both at the same time).
    (If you're not using a Venomous-enchanted Boomerang, inflict Poisoned Poisoned between rotations, when you're visible.  Same with Burning Burning, if you only have Firebloom seed Firebloom seeds, and/or a Wand of Firebolt.  It's highly recommended to prioritize eliminating the B-Fist first, before the R-Fist.)
    3.)  Then, attack both fists with your Boomerang Boomerang weapon & keep inflicting the debuffs, until Invisible ends.

    Repeat the rotation until both Fists are eliminated.
    Once the fists are eliminated, fire your Wand of Poison on the eyeball (if you have one), then follow up with any other Battle Wands you may have.

    This is where you may need to transition to the melee strategy & plant an Earthroot Earthroot seed next to the eyeball, to strike it until it's defeated.  (Unless you have a Lucky-enchanted Boomerang, perhaps?)

    TL;DR

    1.)  Do your best to (acquire the buffs that will help) locate & keep track of the Eyeball & Fists; and get there safely, when necessary.
    Illuminated Mind vision Invisible

    2.)  Do your best to (acquire the items that will) delay, immobilize, or otherwise render the Fists harmless.  (Crowd Control)
    Paralyzed Vertigo Charmed Frozen Rooted Slowed Crippled

    3.)  Unleash your Damage-Over-Time arsenal on the part(s) of Yog-Dzewa that you're focusing on.
    Bleeding Poisoned Burning Golden bee Mirror Images; T-Gas potions

    4.)  Attack 'til you win!

    5.) ** Repeat the rotation/Reapply the debuffs, if they end before you defeat Yog-Dzewa.

    6.)  If in a desperate position & you need to disperse the Larvae, inflict the following debuffs on them:
    Terror Sleep


    If lacking the items that apply the buffs, one can still skip Step 1, but at great risk & harm, although it's still possible to defeat Y-D.
    If lacking the items that inflict Crowd Control debuffs, one can still skip Step 2, but it will take considerably longer & possibly hurt more, although it's still possible to defeat Y-D.
    If lacking the items that inflict Damage-Over-Time debuffs, it's still possible to defeat Y-D, but it will take much longer & hurt a lot more.

    Just make sure you have your essentials (i.e. Earthroot seed, a well-upgraded armor {40 Dmg Absorption}, a decent weapon {inflicts 30-35 avg dmg}, & your DoT arsenal). They're the most crucial items in defeating him.

    If done hyper-cautiously, you won't need to drink more than ~5 Healing potions.

      I beat the KoD and I rushed the Demon Halls and have got to the stairs down to D25. I have 6 healing potions, 1 Paralytic Gas potion, a Wand of Slowness, a +7 sword, +7 scale armor and a few seeds. I haven't got an Earthroot now and am not sure if I should go for the eyeball or the fists first because I haven't got Earthroot and can't stick around to try and find more (annoying evil eyes) should I go for the fists or eyeball first? I ran out of Mind Vision potions and Magic Mapping...:(

      Hmm.. Depends on the location of the eyeball.  If it's sitting in such a way that there's only 1-2 vacant tiles beside your Rogue, then prioritizing the eyeball might be the way to go, especially considering how dangerously low your Healing potion supply is.

      Otherwise, it'll be faster dispatching the fists first (maybe starting with R-Fist, before B-Fist).  The catch with that, however, is that it'll take half of your Healing potion supply to eliminate 1 fist; and they need to be eliminated one at a time.  And you might need to manually drink from your Dew Vial at some point when finishing off the eyeball.

      So.. there's all of that to consider.

      Also, it's fine if you're out of Magic Mapping/Mind Vision; if you have an Invisibility potion, you can use that to find the eyeball (or perhaps save it for once you find them, cause the fists will likely find you too & you'll need to lure them both away, then sprint to the eyeball, if you're going for the eyeball first; separate them, if you're going for one of the fists first).

      If not, well.. just be very careful when searching for the eyeball.  Once you see your health suddenly drop, and you see where the attacks are coming from, be very careful within the amount of turns it takes to approach either the eyeball, or one of the fists.  With no away to get around the fists without burning through your Healing potions, you might be forced to fight them first (in order to save Healing potions), before reaching the eyeball, which is a highly likely scenario.

      Here's hoping you can get around them.

      Will it be possible to win without Earthroot?

      Generally, yes, but with only 6 Healing potions (& an unfilled Dew Vial), I'm not so sure (should've had at least 10 before descending, especially if without an Earthroot seed).  With your very low supply of Healing potions, you have about.. 1/3, or 33.33%, chance to win the boss fight (still very possible, but highly risky).  You'll have to be very careful with your Turn management, making sure not to rush through the fight (in terms of tapping the attack button - make sure to check everything after each attack on the enemy).  Though, at the same time, going quickly enough that your +7 Sword can make quick work of the boss.

      Your Wand of Slowness & P-Gas potion should help, though, regardless of which of Yog-Dzewa's body parts you prioritize in attacking.

      Shadow Automaton's percentage is not set in stone and can be increased depending on the seeds you have. Especially if you have a Seed of Sungrass which you should use instead of the Seed of Earthroot (since you don't have one) if you have one. If not, then Shadow Automaton's percentage won't really change that much.

      I was thinking of throwing P-Gas at the fists then hitting the eyeball then when the P-Gas dissipates, throwing Dreamweed so they'd just be running about randomly to buy me a few extra turns. Still, going for the eyeball would need to deal 1200 damage in total plus the larvae and with the fists at least 850 plus the larvae. With 30 damage on average (taking into account dodging, I did hit a warlock for 70 damage in one go in stage 4 but not the same thing) it'd take about 40 turns to get the eyeball plus extra for the larvae so about 60 turns. Don't know if I can keep the fists away for that long...

      Still I thought I should go for the eyeball first because it's probably too risky with no Earthroot going for the fists but if they're right next to the eyeball or the B-Fist starts attacking as soon as I step off the stairs it could probably be tough.

      Plus, my torch is probably going to run out soon

      EDIT: Oh great. Just checked the R-Fist page and it's immune to vertigo. *groan* what am I supposed to do with this thing now?

      I've just beat the Rotting Fist and burnt through 3 health potions. I was going to get rid of the Burning Fist which is just outside my field of view, there's fire around there so I thought I could chuck a P-Gas potion in the general proximity of the fire and hope for the best, but I need to find a way to get within melee distance of it and even the Wand of Slowness will still let it get in 1 or 2 more hits and I'm on 30 health so will have to waste another potion trying to get there, should I go for the P-Gas or use another potion?

      Oh, I was just about to say, that with 4 Sungrass seeds, you could take either approach first, since each seed basically acts as 1 Healing potion, but I see you've already went ahead with fighting the fists first; and, as I've predicted you've already burned through half your Healing potion supply.

      Also, for future reference, you could've tossed Firebloom & Dreamweed to the R-Fist, while using the Sorrowmoss & P-Gas potion on the B-Fist.

      Well, here's the thing; you could've made your non-identified scroll work for you if the fists were beside the eyeball.
      If it was Mirror Image, then this boss fight would be the time to read it, so the clones can lure the fists away from the eyeball & give the fists other targets, so you could make it to the eyeball safely, or at least attack one of the fists without getting hurt the first few turns.
      If it was Challenge, then it would also do the job of luring the fists away from the eyeball.
      The only thing that would be detrimental to use at the beginning of this boss fight would be if it's actually a Psionic Blast scroll.

      No, you don't have to; simply step on a Sungrass seed & heal up out of sight, or during the fight against B-Fist.

      Judging from the screenshot you provided, you don't need to do anything but hide behind the nearest Decorated Wall tile, until the B-Fist approaches you.  (Moving 1 tile up from the position in that image.  If the B-Fist isn't going anywhere, let it see you, then hide behind the wall tile, until it approaches onto a water tile.)

      You need to stay on a water tile when melee fighting the B-Fist, so its fire doesn't continually burn you.
      (And if you can lure it onto a water tile, I think its fire-field will get doused.)
      Also, you could plant a Sungrass seed on said water tile & stand on it for the duration of the fight against the B-Fist, so it can act as a heal-over-time item; though you'll still likely need to drink a Healing potion, or two, depending on how often the B-Fist damages you.
      If you can, you can try to toss the P-Gas potion a few (~3-4) tiles past/behind the B-Fist during your melee fight, so that the P-Gas can expand to paralyze the B-Fist without also paralyzing you, allowing you to strike while it's paralyzed.

      You won't have to use the Wand of Slowness until you're already fighting the B-Fist, if you take this approach, since you'll want it to approach you ASAP, without giving it time/distance to fire its ranged attack.  (NOTE:  After defeating the B-Fist, make sure you repeatedly tap the Wait button until you're fully healed from Herbal Healing, before stepping off & making your way to the eyeball.)

      If executed properly, you should still have 3-2 Sungrass seeds left (depending on whether or not you healed up out of sight via Sungrass, before starting the fight), the 80%-filled Dew Vial, & maybe 1 Potion of Healing left, which you can use against the larvae while striking the eyeball.

      You were at a big disadvantage while fighting Yog-Dzewa because your Hero was only level 19! You could have been three-shotted, but you managed to win! So congrats! :)

      I would've ascended, but the Lloyd's Beacon is still only at D-16 and I didn't think I could've made it past the Cave Spinners and Enraged Gnoll Brutes without any healing potion so I ended the game...

      I was under-levelled because I rushed the Demon Halls

      You should have tried anyway. If you were going to die in the next hit/next point of hunger damage, you could have used the Amulet of Yendor to end the game before that happened.

    • New Winning strategy I just employed.

      I got down there with 6 toxic gas potions and 4 invisibility potions.

      I just lobbed the toxic gases at the hands, drank invisibility potions, lobbed toxic gas, lobbed toxic gas, etc.

      Hands died.

      Easy.  Super easy.

      Then I wandered up to the eye, encircled it with all my remaining seeds and wacked away at it.  Again, easy, super easy.

    • Just beat Yog again yesterday (second time in a week) as gladiator....started with a quick couple of level 2 ligntning wand blasts at Rotting Fist (he was the first enemy i saw, as i walked up), then an invisibility potion to get away from Rotty, and look around for the eye, unmolested (which was up and to the left).

      As soon as i saw the eye, i threw a toxic potion at it, and then drank a potion of purification, and moved closer to the eye.

      By this time i was obviously no longer invisible, and both fists had seen me and were advancing towards me, so i used a scroll of terror (which kept the fists away for awhile).

      I then threw a seed of earthroot right next to the eye, stepped on the earthroot, and took a few wacks with my level 5 blazing longsword at the eye (all the while, the toxic gas was doing damage to the eye and any enemies nearby...i then remebered i had a few honey pots, so i threw two at the eye, and another at the Rotting Fist (who was no longer in terror, and the bee seemed to distract him away from me) and continued wacking away at the eye...my purification buff ran out after a few more wacks (that toxic gas cloud seemed to last forever!), so i downed another purification potion.

      A few more turns wacking the eye (just like the toxic gas, the earthroot sheild buff lasted a long time!) and it was dead, and then the remaining few turns (the toxic cloud and sheild were finally gone at this point) the bees and i quickly killed off the fists and larvas (already badly damaged from the bees and toxic cloud) and that was it, end of battle!

      I don't remeber if i even needed to use a healing potion, but if i did it was only one (i had the epic armor, at 40 damage absorbtion). Easy peasy!

      I have the deistic pixel dungeon, and there are at least five fists; and I once got super close to beating the eyeball; he was almost dead and he disappeared, and the fists came back (I had just killed them all before I went on to the eyeball).
      The deistic version is obviously different from version that has been explained above.
      Is there anyone who has deistic pixel dungeon and would like to help me?

    • So i just finished the game aobut 5 minutes ago, first try as well so it was super satisfying cuz i started this game like a week ago to pass time at someones house and never touched it until yesterday and i got kinda far cause i didnt have much to do so i just played the game and uhh yea then i took a break and about 5 minutes ago i was throwing a bunch of potions and using a bunch of scrolls and beat the the boss pretty easily, i died 2 times to the king of dwarves but i had 3 ankhs so i was revived and beat him but i somehow didnt die once to the final boss but my armor had gotten alot better and i had a few more resources, also this was on yet another pixel dungeon. easy fight.
