"Initially, these features were meant to be a part of the previous update, but I was afraid to jam too many of them into a single release. So, it’s more like '1.8.0, Part 2' ":

    • Added:  New room - Sacrificial Chamber
    • Added:  Auto-targeting for wands and missile weapons
    • Added:  Read animation (*Scroll-reading* animation added to Hero/ine spritesheets)
    • Changed:  Degradation system
    • Changed:  Durability of all items is slightly increased
    • Changed:  Wands of Telekinesis are replaced with Wands of Reach, with a different effect on enemies
    • Changed:  The way score is calculated
    • Fixed:  Bugs and typos

    ...and more...

"About changes in the Degradation System:

When durability of an item decreases to zero, it doesn’t degrade now.
Instead, it keeps its level, but it breaks.
For example, if you had a +3 Venomous Sword, it becomes Broken +3 Venomous Sword.
Broken items can be used as normal ones, but of course, they perform worse.
For fixing them, the same means are used as for restoring durability:  Scrolls of Upgrade, Scrolls of Enchantment etc."

Also, does anyone know if Legacy Mode (from the Steam platform) is included in 1.9.0 (of the Android platform)?
I asked this question for 1.8.0, but no one got back to me on it; and I'd really appreciate it if someone could inform me on that.  =)

IMO, this is what the Degradation System should have been from the very beginning (the way it is for most other games that have implemented a Degradation System successfully).

If Watabou had taken this route from the very beginning instead, there likely wouldn't have been as much of a backlash on the game as there had been.  And many would have probably been more accepting of the (non-drastic) change.
Having to repair/do maintenance work on items is fine, but outright losing upgrade values definitely removed the sense of progress/growth/improvements that players have invested into the items - that's just a No-No for (designing) any game that requires the player to invest that much thought & effort into (Stat Management).
Though, I fear this change has come a bit too late, as the previous version of the system has already left a bad aftertaste for many players, turning them off from further updating (myself included, even though I managed to avoid updating to 1.7.4).  And I believe the only way to win them back is by giving us Android platform players the same feature that Steam platform players currently enjoy, which is Legacy Mode, or alternatively making Degradation an automatically enabled Challenge option that can be disabled, by going to Challenges before starting a game.

      Readanimation

I tried to rip the sprite from the assets folder.

Now, I'll try to see what's new about the other stuff.

Thank you so much, Rayssa!!  (^_^)

Btw; do you know if Legacy Mode (from the Steam platform) has been added to (the Android platform of) the game (either on 1.8.0, or 1.9.0) ??

Ohh, I guess it hasn't, if you don't know what it is.

Pixel Dungeon on Steam has Legacy Mode; essentially, it gives the option to turn off the Degradation System.

Here's Arcnor's post on Steam:  Plans for the first release of PD on Steam

And here's CJTC's video, showing the feature/checkbox option for Legacy Mode:  Steam PD [0:22]

Hmmm.. No, that option wasn't there, but it looks cool.

PS: Now the photos from the asset page are missing the new sprites...Should I replace them?

EDIT: I've already updated it.I guess it looks ok now...

That page hasn't received any much-needed love in such a long time (not counting my involvement with its History section).  XD

If you can & you'd like to, feel free to do so & go for it.  (^_^)  Just make sure you notify Mdsimmo before you proceed, so he's aware & can readily provide assistance (or answer any questions) if you need any.

EDIT:  Ahh, ohk.  Thank you!  (^_^)

      • The wand of Reach is just like the Telekinesis, but instead of pushing the enemies,it can allow the player to switch places with a nearby mob. And,that's cool...
      • The "marked to sacrifice" debuff lasts for 5 turns

Whew!!!We barely had time to check the changes from 1.8.0,and now,we have another one!!!Well, let's keep going.

The attack of my +3 war hammer was reduced from 23 to 14 when it broke, and my +3 sword from 15 to 9,but I never broke my armor...I need more examples to understand this formula...

The only thing I know right now is that the weapons get much worse...

    • It seems that broken item performance is about half that of an otherwise identical item. Yet to see effects on enchantments.

    • These changes to degradation make the game barely playable.

Before you had for example a +8 glaive which after degrading was a +7 glavie and thus it was doing slightly less but still serious damage.

The new system erases all upgrades to ZERO until you fix the weapon. Which means if it happens later on and you don't have a scroll handy, that's a gg.

Uninstalled the game. Thank gods for mods...

    • I also think, that the new degradation system is even harder now. I started PD after the original system was introduced. It was hard, but I accepted it as a part of the game. But I can't handle the new system. I had one of my best runs with a battlemage. But now, I'm at Dwarven City (lvl 18) with a broken wand of disintegration +8 and a broken plate armor +3. I don't have a chance any more. With the power of a +0 wand, I can't deal enough damage for the Dwarfen City. Even if I find one or two scrolls of upgrade (which is unlikely), the items will be broken again when I reach Yog-Dzewa. I would have preferred a wand of disintegration +7 and a plate armor +2.

    • It all comes down to usability of broken items - from what I checked, broken +5 item and broken +10 item perform the same way. It would be much more pleasant to play, IF broken item would perform as if it was 3 levels worse, instead of temporarily becoming +0.

        Loading editor
    • Imo, if items with higher upgrade level had more durability instead of less, that'd be much better than it is now.

He is working hard to have all the platforms have the same update and have many new features. :)

LoL  I'm fine waiting, as long as Legacy Mode comes to the Android platform with the 1.9.1 update.  =D

Yeah, hopefully it is one of the many new features. :) He did say that all the platforms would become equal in a sense of game mechanics.
