    • Improved Catalogus.
It displays the number of currently-owned identified potions and scrolls, and you can use them right from the there.
    • Improved tiles.
Nothing dramatic here, but the map should look a little less “regular” now.
    • New Berserker’s perk:  “The more enemies surround the Berserker, the faster he performs his attacks.”
    • Any wand can be merged with another wand of the same type.Fading wands
It works roughly like Troll Blacksmith’s service, but wands don’t need to be identified.
    • Wand Of Flock spawns fewer sheep Sheep gif, but they block line-of-sight and live longer.
It’s supposed to make this wand more useful.  :)
For example, you can use it to get close to an enemy and perform a surprise attack.
    • Wand of Avalanche is buffed.
    • Wand of Firebolt is slightly nerfed.
    • Sacrificial mark fire gets propagated (inflicted/spread/procced) on (Hero/ine's) attack.  Marked for sacrifice
I.e. instead of luring enemies into sacrificial fire, you can step into it yourself and then attack them - they’ll become “marked for sacrifice”.
    • All mobs on a level enemies at a depth get beckoned when someone steps into sacrificial fire.
Together with the previous change, it should make the whole sacrificing thing faster.
    • More “scroll-like” behaviour of Scroll of Wipe Out.  Wipeoutscroll
Now, it burns and it can be stored in a scroll holder.
    • Some typos fixed.

    and more…

Another change, if I'm not mistaken, the quick slot will automatically find an enemy to zap.

I haven't played the original for a while now, that's just my general thoughts on the update.

I mean, more diverse tiles would be a really nice addition (if that is what the patch notes are talking about, of course). And new Berserker's perk description sounds much more interesting than previous one - it still rewards risky playing style, but in another, more enjoyable manner.

In the meantime, everything else sounds either as something that:

      a. is not really useful (catalogus, wand of flock)

      b. is not really logical (sacrificial fire propagation, wand merging)

      c. should have been implemented a long ago (firebolt/avalanche wands rebalancing, scroll-likeness of SoWO behaviour)

"to buff" - to make more powerful

"to nerf" - to make less powerful

That's somewhat international terms, as far as I know.

    • Is it new that if you step in to a well of transmutation, you get a disguise (de)buff? I'm not sure what it does, but when I stepped in as a Gladiator, I got the (de)buff "Disguised as a mage" with a little glasses and moustache icon. It also changed my appearance in the dungeon. It later changed back to a warrior.

Just mentioning it, as I didn't see it on the well of transmutation page.

This must be new from this update and also why it's not on the Well of Transmutation page. Previously, when your Hero/ine stepped into a Well of Transmutation, nothing happened.

Instead of nerfing the Wand of Firebolt, he buffed it. It seems he made the damage 10 times more than what it's supposed to be. He probably made a typo by accidentally typing another number.

Well, if you take a closer look, you'll notice that not all of the tiles are the same. The entire row above the Hero is normal, and the entire row below the Hero, except the tile directly below the Hero, is also normal.

You got that right. It is doing a lot more damage than in previous versions. On top of that, Watabou also stated that he nerfed the Wand of Firebolt in the release notes. He obviously did quite the opposite.

Let me explain - should I see an altar glowing with eldritch fire (why not?), I'll think "oh, so that's where I should put my sacrifice to unexplained but certainly malevolent gods, cool", not "oh, I wonder what happens if I step into this fire and start killing things? I bet that'll be something awesome!".

It's one of the tiny pet peeves I have with Watabou whenever he adds hidden gameplay mechanisms like that, which would not be discovered otherwise through normal gameplay, unless a player happened to experiment with the latest update (& didn't care about their particular run) & was thoughtful enough to share it with everyone here on the Wiki, or is an adept Data-Miner/Code-Diver & can read the changes that have been made (like Mdsimmo; and formerly, Ethaniel), and is also thoughtful enough to share them here.

The Wand of Firebolt is supposed to be less powerful, but apparently became more powerful instead because of what seems to be a mistake in coding.  (Which may, or may not, have been fixed in 1.9.2a; no one's yet to confirm.)

Well, in my oppinion it's not a bug, but more like an unintended feature. When you kill enough enemies to get the scroll, the fire turns off and the scroll appears. BUT, if you had stepped before on the fire, you still have the Sacrificial Fire buff (Is that it?) which disappears in something like 5 turns.

If you kill enemies during that period of time you get Scrolls of Wipe Out because the game detects you have killed enough monsters, so the enemies drop it. (That's my theory, but it would probably be proofed if someone did a bit of research on the game's code).

I hope that helped you understand it. :)

Difference between bugs and "unintended features" is quite subtle at best, and nonexistent at worst. Let's just say that it is a problem and leave it at that.

Other than semantics, I believe that your explanation is correct. Code for 1.9.2 is not published yet, unfortunately, so I can't say it for certain.

Hmmm.... That's quite true! Now that I read it again I see that what I said makes quite no sense :) I wasn't convinced at all when I wrote that, but I had no idea how to say it better, so I just let it as "unintended feature".

You've probably tried to say what that was not a system bug, but a code bug. But, judging by my experience, 99% errors happen to due to a code being not thought-out enough (yes, I guess it can say something about my programming skills, lol)

      Gosafer wrote:

It wasn't the case at first, but Watabou's gotten into the habit of only releasing the source code of an update after another update on the main platform has been released.
So, for instance, 1.9.2's source code won't be released until Update 1.9.3 gets released (which usually means a long wait).

On the other hand, we used to have an active Admin that would decompile(?) the code of the latest update, translate the code into something that non-code-literate players can understand, then share the unannounced changes on here, before Watabou even released the source code, but unfortunately, he has since moved on from both our wiki & PD.  =(

So, short of getting another contributor who's willing (& has the time) to data-mine/code-dive the code for everyone else on the wiki, we're all unfortunately forced to wait for a long while for Watabou to release the source code.  =/

      1.9.3 doesn't exist yet.

Additionally, there are links on this wiki's main page that lead directly to, not only where the game can be downloaded (which shows the latest update changelist), but directly to the developer's (Watabou) social media sites - Twitter, Tumblr, FB - where he posts whenever he releases a new update.  So, if you keep an eye on his posts, you should be as up-to-date as everyone here (including the Admins).

      • Wand of Firebolt now nerfed more powerful by an order of magnitude: Brilliant, Watabou.
      • Berserker class upped: Nice; though I don't really care due to my preferences.
      • Tiles fixed even MORE ugly: ono)p
      • Sacrifice mechanics: ...Okay, general convenience is nice, but my suspension of disbelief stops stretching here. And I've been getting back into Dwarf Fortress recently.
      • Wand "merging": Well, Wizard is slightly more useless now, isn't he? ...F██k.

      1) if you kill mobs with the "marked for sacrifice" on it using a Scroll of Wipe Out, they counts to get the Scroll in the altar.

      2) The Scroll of Wipe Out kill all NPCs, i can confirm the Sad Ghost, the Troll Blacksmith and the Rat King; dunno about the Wand-Maker.... maybe that magical aura prevent him for getting affected.

      3) if you throw a Potion of Frost to a stack of Misterious Meat, it become the Frozen Carpaccio.
