The Yog-Dzewa is the boss of Demon Halls.
Description
Yog-Dzewa | ||
Yog-Dzewa is an Old God, a powerful entity from the realms of chaos. A century ago, the ancient dwarves barely won the war against its army of demons, but were unable to kill the god itself. Instead, they then imprisoned it in the halls below their city, believing it to be too weak to rise ever again. | ||
Abilities
- When noticing you, Yog-Dzewa yells: “Hope is an illusion...”
- Yog-Dweza doesn't move, but attacks using beams similar to Evil Eye's beam, but penetrates through anything. His beam cannot harm any of his allies.
- Each time Yog takes damage, a larva is spawned at a free tile around him.
- When entering a phase, Yog-Dweza becomes invulnerable and spawns a fist/s. He becomes vulnerable again if the fist/s is/are defeated.
- Everytime Yog loses 300 HP, He spawns "one" of the 6 fists, ("two" if Badder Bosses challenge enabled) 3 times before his final phase. He can spawn:
- Soiled Fist,
- Rotting Fist,
- Blazing Fist,
- Rusted Fist,
- Bright Fist, and;
- Dark Fist.
- Defeating Yog-Dweza allows the player to enter the last floor and obtain the Amulet of Yendor.
- When dying, Yog-Dzewa yells: “...”
Special notes
- Yog-Dweza is immune to most magical effects.
- Damage inflicted by the Hero, is divided by 4, if the 2 fists remain, and are divided by 2, if 1 fist remains.
The Fight
Tips
- A torch may be needed to get a better view of what is happening.
- Armor that absorbs up to 40 Damage, is needed to get through the fight.
- A weapon that inflicts an approximate average of 30-35 damage (1/10th of his total HP) is needed, to face & defeat Yog-Dzewa.
- Once you are 1 tile away from the stairs at Depth 25, it will be closed off. Be sure you're absolutely ready to face Yog-Dzewa before stepping away from the stairs.
- If attacking with any weapon (melee or ranged), Yog may have a chance to spawn larva.
- The amount of beams Yog shoots vary on his current phase/health (1 beam if above 700 hp, 2 beams if between 300-700 hp, and 3 beams if below 300 hp).
- When Yog-Dweza spawns the fist/s. You need to lure them away from the eye as they are invulnerable when near it.
Magical combat:
- Scrolls like Prismatic Image, Psionic Blast, and Dread are useful when fighting a lot of larva or want to massively affect the fists' combat capabilities.
- If you have Badder Bosses challenge enabled, Scroll of Siren's Song, and Scroll of Dread is useful agaisnt larva, and Ripper Demons.
- Elixirs such as Dragon's Blood, Toxic Essence, or Icy Touch is usually not recommended, but it's optional. Elixir of Arcane Armor however is usually needed when fighting the fists.
- Using brews also work when fighting the fists.
Ranged combat:
- Try to hit your attacks at a distance. This way, you'll have time to get to a spot when Yog reaches its phase and attacks its larva while doing so.
- When a phase has reached, flee to an area where it is mostly closed off and the fists can't fit through (exception is bright and dark fists). *Also dodge Yog-Dweza's beams. Be careful of the fists' special ranged attacks as well.
- It is almost not recommended to fight Bright Fist and Dark Fist from a distance. Their magical attacks are deadly at range, so try to get close to them and engage in melee attacks.
- Flee if your low in health. Take cover using the pillars and use Potion of Healing if needed. Potion of Invisibility also helps.
- When fighting using wands, its best to use Scroll of Recharging to get more uptime for your wands.
- Wands like Wand of Disintegration, Lightning, and Corrosion can deal massive amounts of damage when they are upgraded a lot.
- Try to use most of your ranged weapons on Yog, as he has the most health than everyone.
Melee combat:
- Get into close range and attack Yog as much as you can while at the same time killing any larva it spawns. Also be ready to flee when it reaches its phase.
- Be careful when fighting Soiled Fist. It has an ability to root you in place, making you vulnerable to Yog-Dweza's beams and the fist itself.
- You might lose a lot of health when fighting the fists. It is highly recommended to have a few healing items like Potion of Healing or Seed of Sungrass. Though Healing Potions is better
- You should throw a Seed of Earthroot when fighting any fists or Yog-Dweza, and step on it for protection during the fight. This will decrease the damage you receive from them.
Trivia
- Yog-Dzewa’s name is the combination of Cthulhu Mythos deities: Yog-Sothoth (or Yog-Sapha) and Dzéwà.
- If you die at depth 25 with an Ankh, after the floor resets, Yog-Dzewa will now be called "Echo of Yog-Dzewa".
